Because the comic on which it's incredibly loosely based is so incredible. I mean I kind of liked the flick in a goofy action kind of way as I liked the bullet bending and some of the shootouts but it's so not the comic it just left me wanting to see the real deal so badly, I felt cheated. I guess in a way there's so much going on in the comic that it's "unfilmable" but I dunno, make it a straight to DVD animation or something, that would be awesome.

Agreed, they kept the douchiness but got rid of the superhero megabattles. Damnit.

Christ I could almost tolerate it if Fox had been played by Halley Berry. But Angelina Jolie, what the Hell man?

They might as well have given the movie a different title, because it had absolutely nothing to do with the comic book. That's not an adaptation, that's a full-body transformation.
That being said, the comic probably really was unfilmable. I mean, here we've got a "hero" who brags about being able to get away with raping famous women. No way could the movie have ever gotten anything but an NC-17 rating if they'd kept the characterizations and tone of the original comic intact.

Does everyone like Wanted for the sociopathic philosophy parts? Am I the only one who hated that part but loved the overarching world it created?

Oh yeah, the "do whatever you want, might makes right" philosophy was pure garbage. Like a roided-up Objectivism taken to an infinite degree of selfishness and cruelty. The parts where the hero turns into the sickest Mary Sue on the planet are pretty disgusting. If I liked anything about the book, it was just Millar's weird sense of humor and talent with jokes.

I felt dirty when I finished reading it honestly. Such an unsettling comic.

This is the movie where Angelina Jolie stopped being even remotely attractive. Couldn't stand the main dude, either.

I liked the comic ok the first time I read it, but going back through it; it's so mean-spirited and all around shitty that I don't mind that the movie had nothing to do with it.

I hated this movie. It reminded me of those Jason Statham movies (Transporter series, Crank) with those way over the top unbelieveable stunts and action sequences.

I am a fan of over-the-top action flicks, so I didn't mind this movie. In fact, I liked it. However, I own the trade paperback and while I enjoyed the comic the first time, I read it another time, it kind of put a bad taste in my mouth, especially the part towards the end when the father was all telling Wesley how his life was going.
The whole thing about being a "loser" kind of made me feel a little weird, talking about how the main character was a wuss and how he was pushed around and that monologue at the end irked me as well.

the comic was rubbish anyway. total wish-fulfilment on the author's part and his pissing and moaning about people keeping him gainfully employed just pissed me off.

The only other comic that I've read from Mark Millar is "Kick-Ass" and I actually thought that one was good.

Millar's not that bad a writer when he has an editor to keep him from going overboard. the guy can be the most needlessly mean-spirited cuss though. I mean, did the otherwise awesome Old Man Logan REALLY need the "hur hur Hulk raped She-Hulk" bit?

I walked in knowing nothing of the product/comic back when I saw it in theaters and thought it was a reasonably good action flick, albeit with some flaws.

Honestly I liked basically everything about the comic, even the gungy dirty crazy philosophy stuff. His "superpower" was being the ultimate asshole killer, so all that stuff makes sense.
It's also really far out to think that 20 years ago we really did have superheroes, but we don't remember them anymore and in reality supervillains run the world.

I loved the film. I have absolutely no interest in comics or graphic novels, so with any of these films I don't have any baggage when watching them.
