Was it really a week apart? I was 13 years old at the time. That'd be pretty ironic.

3/26/01 was the date of the final WCW Nitro and 4/04/01 was the date that Paul Heyman filed for bankruptcy...so yeah, it kind of really was a week apart. Sad really.

WCW really died some time in 1997. Sadly the body was never discovered until 2001.

Yeah ECW was in Feb. Because Heyman was doing Color on Raw when WCW went under. It more amazing that as bad ECW was money wise. They it only died just a couple months before the billion dollor WCW. Odvisely WCW had different reason for being gone. I never guessed that it would have both ended at almost the same time.
01 was a very sad first 3 months of the year. People blame Vince for it. When AOL/Time Warner was the real blame for it. They pulled to the plug on it. Not letting WCW on there networks that left Eric's investers to back out. That was the real blame there.
It's a shame that TNA can get there crap together right to be a real #2.

I don't know if it's true, just read that in some wrestling magazine, but wasn't ECW basically always bankrupt and only survived that long because Vince would support Heyman financially and i also read that Acclaim helped them financially when they had the license deal (propably to make sure ECW doesn't die before they puked out those 2 games)

I'll never forget watching that last Nitro. That was surreal and it's still hard to believe.

Didn't ECW really die on 1/13/01. I'm pretty sure that's the date of their last actual show, but I couldn't find a date for it so I might be wrong.

ECW is something I still miss at times.
WCW, barring occasional Piper appearances and Flair, Sting and Bret matches, I lost interest in when the nWo picked up steam.

I find it ironic that the much much smaller company, with not nearly as much money behind it lasted longer then WCW
not granted not much longer, but still longer

I find it ironic that the much much smaller company, with not nearly as much money behind it lasted longer then WCW not granted not much longer, but still longer The bankruptcy filing happened after a couple of months of getting stuff together so no WCW actually lasted a little longer than ECW. I only interject that because of my undying love and fielty ro WCW and my distain for the revisionist WWECW history that suggests ECW was ever a greater promotion than wcw. Also above someone mention ECW never getting into the black and staying in biz with help from Vince. Part of this is true. ECW was never in the black. Vince did give Paul money as a consultant. But so did WCW(Reference Hardcore History by ECW press). Vince gave an amunt far less substantial than Acclaim and that is why both Acclaim and WWFE tried to get their holding during the bankruptcy hearings. WWFE eventually won and as a matter of course bought out the tape library and trademarks. Leaving Acclaim among the many people ECW owed a pile of money to.

How many years has it been since AWA folded? Has it been 20 or 21?

When I watched my DVD of GAC 01, I thought to myself "It's sad how this is their last PPV." It seemed like angles were being set up for Living Dangerously a couple of months later, only for the company to go under.
I'll never forget the final Nitro. I still thought it was so surreal seeing Vince on Nitro at the start.

Congratulations to Chavo Guerrero for lasting 10 years in the WWF/E! Way to go, little buddy!
Seriously, I thought for sure it would be anyone else who made it to the 10-year mark after the buyout.

I still have my replica WCW World title belt. Not the WHC, but the WCW title. I miss WCW so much.

WCW really died some time in 1997. Sadly the body was never discovered until 2001. I think the company died after the infamous 4 Horsemen nWo skit. You could just tell that most of the talent hated one another and that there were some major internal problems within the company that were never resolved and really began to manifested externally just one short year later.

Must have been surreal being on the internet back in those days.
Can only imagine what this place would be like these days if RoH and TNA folded within weeks of each other.

Must have been surreal being on the internet back in those days. Can only imagine what this place would be like these days if RoH and TNA folded within weeks of each other. Nothing against TNA or ROH but if those two folded tomorrow and the next day respectively it would be a ripple on the pond compared to WCW and ECW closing. The War between all three was bitter and full of twists turns and back stabbing. WWF winning in basically one fail swoop time-wise was huge. There were so many stories out there on wrestling news sites you didn't know what to think. I remember a story about Jim Ross supposedly going to Atlanta himself two days after the last Nitro to personally fire like a dozen people who had wronged him. This had zero basis in reality. There was no-one he could fire. The people who f'd him over at WCW were either named Bischoff and not employed or they were Turner employees and JR couldn't have gotten thru the front door at CNN center to even ask for a cup of coffe. Other such claims had Nitro replacing Raw alltogether right after the June PPV for WWF. There were stories about Goldberg being the first to debut or Hall and Nash being backstage at Raw. The internet was ripe with BS
