It depends on how the questions is presented to me if people ask me in a genuine way why i like it i will usually explain why i like wrestling.
I was talking to one of the girls i work with one day and i happened to mention i liked to watch wrestling she was kinda surprised by this and asked "but isnt it fake?" i explained to her that even though it is pre-determined and follows story lines the bumps they take are real and she was actually suprised by the complex nature of "fake" wrestling.
but with the usual douchebag "uh hur wrastlin issss fake hur hur" aye i just usually throw them some sarcastic comments cos all the idiot is trying to do is get a rise out you.
but my im used to gettin idiots asking dumb questions as a metal fan as well i also get "dat not musik dats noizze!

It does bug me when some people like to brag about how something's "fake" while they follow something else that's "fake" like the gospel without really understanding that what they are enjoying is also "fake". A lot of "fakes" right there, but come on.

I love it when people say wrestling is fake. Somehow, they think they're smarter than everyone else in the room and that they're actually telling you something. If someone tries to "explain" to me that it's not real I'll say something like, "Hey, did you Days of Our Lives is fake?"

No! and don't call me "ho".
I vehemently protest, and act mightily upset that someone would even DARE assert that wrestling is fake, or scripted even. I go into to full mark denial mode, but do it in the most serious manner that I can to see how long I can string the person along before making them feel really dumb.

I pretend to be shocked like I would just have found out and disbelieve, and I let them to explain it to me. Then I come back with "Oh, right. Just like soccer."

Am I crazy, or did my post get deleted. Not sure if it was outside of any rules, but oh well.
Anyway, I end up going into incredible details of it being an art and such, and eventually they don't want to listen to me anymore. I don't usually get that it's fake, I get that it's men rolling around in their underwear mostly.

especially, to ufc fans i just say "when ufc can fill an arena faster than wrestlemania with as many ppl, then ill give what you think the time of day" Hardly a fair retort. UFC hasnt had the popularity boom that wrestling had in the 80's, nor has it had the longevity of the WWF/E. As someone who prefers MMA to pro wrestling, I just tend to disregard about a large majority of "MMA fans" for their opinion on pro wrestling just as much as I disregard them for their opinion on MMA. Go on MMA boards around the net, and see why. When you see a 15 year old kid who listens to Hollywood Undead and wears TapouT clothing questioning Georges St Pierres "warrior spirit" because he hasnt finished a fight recently, then his opinion on pro wrestling is hardly worth dignifying. trust me its shut quite the few haters up in my experience lol

Tends to shut down that part of the conversation very quickly.

If someone is genuinely interested in asking me why I like it, I'll explain it to them. But if they're just one of the "Oh, you know it's fake right? Haw haw haw" brigade I just respond with something like "You know Christian Bale isn't really Batman, right?"

*insert video of Dr. D beating the crap out of John Stossel here*
truthfully, I usually give them the standard "Well, all your favorite TV shows are fake too, yet that doesn't stop you" response. However, sometimes, I act dramatic and yell "WHAT? IT'S FAKE!??! EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIEEEEEEEEE!!!!11"
