Rey Mysterio is half-Mexican, quarter leprechaun, one-eighth jumping bean, and one-eighth tattoo ink.
...does this sound about right? Are we even still doing this joke?

Wasn't Pedro Morales the first WWE/F champ from Mexico? Or was he puerto Rican?

Pedro Morales was born in Puerto Rico. Eddie Guerrero was born in Texas. Rey Mysterio was born in California. All three are natural born citizens of the United States. They are American in that sense, though Morales would also be considered Puerto Rican. Eddie and Rey probably had Mexican ancestors (Rey obviously has 'MEXICAN' tattooed on his abdomen). Mexican refers really to their ethnic and cultural background pertaining to their family's ancestry and not their citizenship.

His parents are Mexican, iirc, but he was born in America.
So... he is actually Mexican, but because he was born in America, he is an American citizen.

You learn something every day. I guess Dos Caras only wrestled/promoted in puerto rico, and wasn't from there. Or, perhaps, I'm thinking of the wrong person entirely...

I see a lot of good points from you guys. Both my parents were born in Mexico, I was born here though. I do not consider myself "full" Mexican, why? I can't really speak Spanish well (I understand it but Can't really write it and when I do speak it I stutter a lot) I rarely visit the motherland. (a ton of people don't I've had the chance but I chose not to. ) I also live the American way. (ie I prefer a burger over Mexican made food)
Now how did I get that silly criteria? Well if I go from America to Mexico the people there will see me as an American (or Chicano) , not a Mexican, because I am very distant from my Mexican heritage. When I am here people see me as Mexican. Anyway...
{ I see Rey as a chicano, I even see Eddie as chicano. Why? They mix their English and Spanish up. They say "Órale vato" and "homes" and "esay" I asociate that with the Mexican- American culture. Now Rey speaks pretty good English and his Spanish has an accent. Also, just listen to the Eddies or Rey's song. They are all English/Spanish rap-ish, hip hop-ish.
Now ADR, he looks and even gives off the Mexican vibe you can see it from his mannerism and when he says stuff in Spanish.
To me, based on my own life experience I see Del Rio as a full Mexican. He is like Sheamus to me. Sheamus doesn't have that typical Irish gimmick thing going on. And I think what Del Rio was trying to say was that he is the first Mexican born RR winner. }
Now before some of you guys flame me, all this is based on years of my uncles and cousin telling me I am all Americanized and stuff. Just because I can't really speak Spanish or like to eat spicy food. I know that sound silly and stuff but a lot of people see it that way. At least in my experience.
