I figured I'd post this here since we've heard all the rumors leading up to Mania about how we'd get a WCW Hall of Fame class, etc. Being that yesterday was the ten year anniversary of WWE buying out WCW, I decided to sit down and watch "The Rise and Fall of WCW" on Netflix. I came to the conclusion that... a) Holy crap it's been ten years? b) It's completely unacceptable that Vince is holding Wrestlemania in WCW's biggest city and isn't even having some sort of WCW tribute/HOF class or the such. Who cares if the younger fans probably have no idea what WCW even is these days. It's only been a decade and fond memories of the company are still in the heads of a lot of loyal fans that stopped watching wrestling for good when WCW went out of business. Throw them and us a bone and have some sort of tribute. My suggestions to you WWE are to do one of the following... 1) Have a bunch of the former WCW stars come out and pay tribute to the company including having a little video package of the some of the big highlights. Mysterio, Malenko, Booker T, Nash, Big Show and the such can come out and give a thank you to the fans. Hell, you've got DDP doing the Best of Nitro DVD...have him and maybe Goldberg make guest appearances if you can. 2) Since they're unlikely to do the former, I'd really like to see the following happen for one night only. I don't give a damn whether or not they don't consider the WCW Title and the World Heavyweight Title the same belt...Edge defends the WCW Title in Atlanta against Alberto del Rio and maybe Christian. Really Vince, what's it gonna hurt for one night?

Sadly they were just Internet rumors. Too bad cause if they EVER were going to do a WCW tribute, this was the time and place to do it.

I can see a small mention being made on commentery or something at Mania for sure. Nothing more though

Unfortunate, but true.

Riddle me this..why would they? They have no responsibility to honor a fallen competitor that tried to run them out of business.

When the Rock came back that first time, I paid close attention to the crowd shots. Adults were chanting for the Rock. But little kids wearing Cena shirts either did nothing at all, or only started cheering when they saw their dads doing it. Otherwise, they were largely clueless.
Sign of the times. When trying to find a sense of where WWE needs to go and what it's doing right, I rely on the observations of my little brother. He's 5. That's now WWE's target audience. I've tried to explain to him that WWE should pay tribute to WCW and needs a solid tag team division, but he doesn't give a bollocks.
So that's why WWE doesn't either.

Because Vince McMahon resents, undermines, and ultimately destroys things he did not create, even when he controls them and could be making a profit off of them.

If this is the only way WWE ever recognizes the hardwork of Hardwork Bobby Walker and the above average abilities of Above Average Mike Sanders, then yes they should have done this.

Little kids have no idea what WCW is. Unfortunate, but true. What the hell does that have to do with anything? I'm tired of people pinning things not happening on the kids. Explain to me why Rock, Austin, Gobbledy Gooker, Steamboat and other stuff has happened? Hurr durr, the kids, the kids! I don't care if it's the demograph, infact, that's been one of WWE's demographs since the 80's and I saw nobody complain about it until 2008.

Wrestlemania is WWE's main show, they don't need to dedicate any of it to a former competitor they ended up literally owning a decade before.

Because Vince Mcmahon hates WCW.

Frankly, why should WWE tribute a former competitor that was run into the ground and in its greatest mainstream form never existed all that long? Why tout the success of the past when you can hail the future and and give yourself a pat on the back at the same time?

Not exactly a tribute, but a few of the inductees this year made their biggest splashes in WCW or promotions not the WWE (Road Warriors, Abdullah, Bullet Bob, etc.)

Why no WCW Mania tie in? Because Goldberg wanted more money for doing nothing than WWE wanted to pay him; Flair's in TNA; Sting wont give Vince the time of day; and the left-overs aren't markable enough to warrant a tribute.

Throw them and us a bone and have some sort of tribute. I agree with the above poster that the talent that would be needed just isn't there to make it worthwhile, but this part also stood out. If those fans stopped watching wrestling for good 10 years ago, why should the WWE devote their biggest show of the year to something that group won't watch using people they haven't seen in angles they know nothing about? That's pretty much the answer to your question, if those fans haven't been supporting WWE in those 10 years, there's no reason why they change their biggest night to try to bring them back, because if they weren't interested before, there's no reason to think they'd be interested now, and definitely not long term.
