Yes, if Cena was still like this, he wouldn't have to worry about the "tough crowds" and actually have everyone on his side like Batista.

Cena actually was entertaining back then. Those were his raps, rather than creative writing for him. Let him do that thing again, and push him into the midcard rather than the main event, and he can get some of his fan base back.
He's still better than Batista, both in the ring and on the mic. Why fans still support the lug, I'll never know.

He was slightly more tolerable I guess. Still has the promos where he speaks rather than raps, and the gay jokes, and bad rhymes. I liked the crack about the XFL though.

Still annoys me as rapping heel. I had to turn it off half way through.

Then for some ungodly reason, they just decide that, after winning the WWE Title, he should drop all that. WTF?

I forgot how Cena was actually mildly entertaining a few years ago. That was pretty funny.

And coincidentally, he said he'll main-event WM20. The only thing he got there was the opening match. Then in the next two years, he did main event WM21 and WM22!

His rapping gimmick was pretty good, too bad he turned into such a piece of shit.

The XFL joke in his rap was funny, but I just never was into his gimmick.

I never saw that before either, so thank you for sharing it. I thought you meant at first that the good Cena part was where his microphone did not work. Seriously, those were the good old days when Cena was kick ass and I marked huge for him. I am not even a big rap fan and I am the opposite of what many refer to as a wigger, but Cena was so fresh and original that regardless of race or whether you are into rap or not, you had to mark for him. After not watching wrestling in 2003, Cena was one of the things that made me watch again at the start of 2004 when I saw his stuff with Heyman. I even bought a throwback jersey at the NBA store in Orlando, when I visited Universal Studios because I thought he was cool in his. His Wrestlemania 20 match may have jerked the curtain, but it was his best Wrestlemania match and that moment he had with the United States title was so magical that his World title wins did not come close to matching it. Watching Cena back when he was cool just makes me loathe him more now for what he has become and admitting that his rap gimmick was all a fake. If he cut raps like that on the crowd when they booed him instead of saying "gee it is okay you dislike me because I have my chain gang 10 year old girls," he would never be booed again. If he cut those on Edge and Hunter instead of standing there looking like a dope while they tear him a new butt hole, he would be over. The XFL line does explain why the WWF sabotaged his gimmick and I bet he got X - Pac heat from the McMahons over it. He would never have the guts to do anything like that with a microphone again.

I still prefer the non-rapping cena but he was cool when HE did his own raps and creative didn't try to ass rape his gimmick into the ground... I still prefer Cena with the belt over HHH anyday. Although I wish they bring back the real belt not the "pimp my ride" one

I kinda miss the old belt, not the pre Cena one, but the one before it, the one that got scraped when the undisputed (that lasted long...) belt was made

The only time was halfway tolerable was from Feb '03-June '04. When he beat Renee Dupree clean one too many times, I didn't find him interesting really ever again.
