Well, WWE did have 20th Century FOX for The Marine and 12 Rounds, as well as The Marine 2, but that was straight to DVD. WWE had Lionsgate for See No Evil and The Condemned, the only R-Rated WWE films ever made.

Notice how the profit of WWE films has shot up since WWE started self distributing?

I don't see where the profit talk comes from. It's only about 150k, while most movies, even direct to DVD are usually in the millions.

These movies would make one craptacular box set or movie marathon.
It looks like the highest rated at rotten tomatoes was 12 rounds, with 21% positive reviews on rottentomatoes.

Right on. I feel that way about Titanic. I don't care if people saw it 300 times in a row I still hated it. I'd hate it if I had to watch it again. It had it's uses though for some dudes back in 97. I sure a couple million men sat through 3 hours of that movie for a good 20 minutes of sex at the end of the night.

These Samuel-Goldwyn WWE Films never get released in theaters where I live. I know they're limited releases, but at least have them shown in some theater near. Is there a reason why they don't get nationwide releases anymore? Is it because See No Evil, The Marine, The Condemned, or 12 Rounds didn't do so well in theaters? I actually got to see 12 Rounds in theaters, and it was in theaters for two weeks where I live. Except for See no Evil, All movies bombed in the B.O. but were successful in DVD sales. That why they are going the cheapest route for the movies. Thing about See No Evil was that it didn't rely much on Kane to draw. Horror flicks have a solid built-in audience and are consistent earners, they may not make a lot but they don't cost that much and generally turn a profit. Spending more and relying on Cena to pull folks in to pay too damn much at the theater was a sketchy move. I think they've learned their lesson. Unless they get a big opportunity they'll stick to the moderately-priced straight-to-video flicks.

I'm going to take the high road, the WWE bodybuilding attempt failed, the WWE music label is stagnant, I'm happy this is working for Vince.
I may not watch the flicks (to my knowledge I've never watched an OFFICIAL WWE films release to this day, at best I;ve seen maybe 15 minutes of The Marine), but hey if it makes them money they can branch off into WWE AND WWE Films, I'm not gonna hate I hope they remain lucrative, and hell if SOME people do enjoy them why hate?

My favorite part of the article: "The slate WWE Studios is producing is also expected to serve as more high-profile programming for the cable channel that WWE plans to launch as early as next year. " I can't wait for WWE to have it's own cable channel, but if the programming is filled with these crappy movies, I become less excited.

Because a nation wide release costs alot of money, you have to promote the movie on more then just WWE programming, which means paying to get your trailer before other movies, paying for TV spots, paying for print and in theatre advertisement etc. Combine that with overall under performance in theatres and it's just not worth it to do a nationwide release. Hell, like someone else said, the only reason these get there 3 screen releases is because Wal*Mart won't stock them otherwise. Also, in order to get that nationwide release, WWE'd have to bring in a distributer. Which would slash the profitability right away. Well I could go and pick up Knucklehead off the shelf right now, and I'm in the UK. They've advertised it on TV plenty of times (away from WWE programming too), so I guess they're paying a decent amount for shipping costs/ad costs.

in all honesty, I hope WWE keeps making films, if only because they provide such quality snark-bait

For the hype of Chaperone and the way they pushed, even for only a limited showing, this isn't good. Also, I'm not sure where you guys are hearing WWE Films make money - Knucklehead and Legendary have both lost money so far.

They do make a profit on DVD sales, but it's so bare and minimal... iit's nothing really special. Why do we see terrible straight to DVD releases from bigger studios? Because someone would buy it, most likely. And it's apparently dirt cheap (comparatively) to do so.
As long as it's not hampering my wrestling, I shouldn't care. And I don't. The WWE has managed to keep their movie business out of their wrestling and TV so far, so that shouldn't anger anyone.

Vince should just buy The Asylum and make knock-off versions of Hollywood blockbusters.
They would have least have a cult comedy value.

The original idea of WWE movies was to make stars of it's wrestlers wasn't it? I mean, like the scorpion king did for the rock and all those cruddy films did for Hulk Hogan. They wanted to make films that would make some money and get their guys into the mainstream. Now the films may make a bit of cash, but they aren't brekaing through into the mainstream at all, instead the same people who watch WWE anyway are watching them and buying the dvd's. It may make money, but in terms of it's original idea it failed a long time ago.
