Hey, if he was booked like a monster and held world titles this year, I'd buy it. They're both good enough workers to make it look believable. I don't think it should happen, but a year is a long time, if DBD beat guys like Orton/Cena/Triple H then its believable that he can beat Taker, WM or not.

Well,I think this questions odd. It sort of ignores his appeal.
Basically roh and indy fans watched him grow from being essentially a nobody to being who he is today. In his first few years of roh he was basically a midcarder. He wasnt really that dominant, infact at one point he left the promotion because he thought he was basically a loser. He built up an audience of people who thought he was a brilliant technical wrestler, but i remember people at the time finding him as bland as some people now do(infact his wwe run right now is reminding me of early bryan). It became a running thing that he'd never win the title. Then he won and was dominant, then he spent years in title contention yet never winning and putting people over as an upper midcarder.
Basically, bryans an underdog. He's not just internet fans, hes wrestling fans. He's actually got alot in common with the miz,he was the guy that was doubted and told always that he was too small, that he was too bland but...he did it. He's in the biggest promotion in america, maybe even the world. We dont love him solely because teh workrates or whatever...it's because he's as much of a geek as we are and he got to that level. It inspires us and proves that theres hope and in a post benoit wrestling climate thats a hard thing to find.
To answer your question though,If you did it tomorrow it wouldnt work obviously. He's not at that level. But with years of build and time and adjustments? Yep. I can buy him as tough at least,i've seen the guy finish a match with a detached retina. I dont see miz or orton doing that(i say that as a pretty big marks for them both). I've also seen him go from being no-one to being someone.
To the people saying anybody could do it with the right build. In theory you're right but thats everything in pro wrestling,if you give someone ric flairs gimmick of narrowly escaping defeat alot of people would be over. That doesnt mean what he accomplished isnt worthy. Its predetirmined but you have to have skill to carry it off. If you disagree, look at matt hardy-edge. Hardy had a perfect feud already written for him, great momentum and was basically believe it or not the hottest thing in wrestling for that brief time. It didnt pan out. Thats not because of wwe booking,it's because his first night back he cut a really bad promo. Stories and angles are NOT foolproof.
But I dont want it to happen. It'd backfire. The greatest arguement for ending the streak is also the greatest arguement against it. It's bigger than the world title. You'd have to have someone whos got that level of mystique that the undertaker does and theres pretty much nobody with that. When you take his streak,I think you're not just getting a tool to put yourself over, you might be basically getting takers spot. Thats basically the spot of the most over guy in the company. The only person I could think who might be able to take that would be orton. Even then I dont know.

I could not see this happening at first, but that's cause i think of Undertakers matches how he is booked. However after thinking about it and remembering how Danielson has been booked before coming the E if it was booked right it could be the best thing ever.
The streak has actually become a bit of a detriment in the twilight of Takers career. As he gets up there in age more and more it will take a special kind of worker to make his matches matter, the lack of interest shown to this years Taker match is kind of proof. Taker literally can't wrestle anyone at a future Mania that I can imagine save maybe Cena or the pipe dream of Sting and make it have any drama thus making it hard to get people interested. The first Michaels-Taker didn't really have much drama going into it which is why I think it gets such high regards they took what everyone was expecting to be a good match used to pad Takers streak with a veteran who can sell and put on a great match. The second one people cared about because we knew it was the end of an era, few people believed HBK would end it. However that has been used up now too. Even the early rumors of it being a HHH retirement match didn't seem to excite anyone.
So by ending the streak they can milk a few more Manias from Taker, even if they just become one-offs and make them big selling points. Look at it like this, Lets say five years from know Wade Barret is at the Champ and he's run through everyone on his brand. Taker is retired or semi-retired but decides to come back for bit, a Hogan tour or what have you. If he left undefeated he aint coming back just to lose the streak. That would be worse yet and it has the potential to kill Wades heat. Now if Taker doesn't have the streak to fall back on it becomes believable that Wade could take out Taker. With the streak on the line 20 plus and 0 nobody really wants to see Taker vs Barret at mania, or vs. ADR or vs. Kane again even. We know already the outcome. So the real trouble has always been how to end the streak respectfully and have an usurper that won't be harmed by beating the crowd favorite, that has some longevity to give back what will probably be the biggest rub ever given, and that will have some real lasting meaning. Everyone says it would be great heel heat, but honestly it would be cheap heel heat and pointless if they ever turn that guy face. The better bet would be a face/face about respect, similar to Michaels/Taker.
Honestly DBD is probably the best guy on the roster to fit that description. Kane maybe but he doesn't have the longevity left I would imagine. Have DBD go on a streak on his own, pulling out stunning victories from the jaws of defeat with a plucky resilience and a bit of luck. Have the heels down play his accomplishments and call him a fluke or just lucky. Maybe give him a run in the summer with a title from MITB and let him run with it until he inevitably faces Taker. Maybe Taker upsets him and loses the title later or maybe they go to the limit with DBD barely retaining but he sells the damage so a heel can unseat him at the next televised show. Make it clear that it is no longer about titles as the heel dogs them both and gets into a new feud. Danielson is looking to prove he is tough and Taker is needing to prove he still has it. Danielson's style is perfect for this. Just cause there is a young dog in the yard doesn't mean its not still Takers yard. Danielson whos been striving to prove himself worthy as a champion knows the best path to respect is through Taker. There's your build up.
They get to mania, DBD tries to outpace Taker, but gets caught and takes a beating. Danielson is the best at selling this stuff. Undertaker locks in his submission but DBD won't tap, maybe even treis to reverse it into something that gets him back on top. This leads to Danielson regaining control and locking in a submission. Taker refuses to tap and eventually powers out, but Danielson locks in a different submission, Taker makes it to the ropes. Danielson goes up top and lands a high risk maneuver, let's say an HBK inspired elbow. Goes for another. Taker sits up while he DBD is climbing. Taker hits his spots, but instead of going for the pinfall after them he keeps locking DBD into a submission but DBD won't tap. Tombstone and Taker hesitates to pin or submit. Pinfall 2 count. Have Taker pour on the pain now. Tombstone again. Then choke lift him up and chokeslam. Last ride, choke lift and delay it in air if Taker can (Danielson's size should help this) then slam. Slow to cover and DBD kicks out. Taker is exhausted and gets up slowly. Then tries to lift DBD but he has recovered enough to start an offense. They exchange DBD's kicks and Taker's punches. DBD thrown into ropes and he knocks taker to a knee with a dropkick. Back into ropes and another kick Taker is on both knees as DBD goes into the ropes again, but he gets caught . one hand on his throat. As Taker is rising up DBD slips out and rains down his MMA elbows debuting them in the WWE. He now has a believable power finisher he can use against bigger guys that isn't a submission. They share a mutual respect afterwards, Taker proving he can still go the limit and Danielson proving he is as tough and as bad as they come. The next 'mania Taker will be beatable and it will be even more dramatic for whomever they pair him up with.

I would still like this match to happen. Even if DB were to lose, I am sure the match would be awesome.

Any angle could be executed well if booked properly enough.
No reason why Danielson beating Taker couldn't be done if there was a competent booker in place.
...Now, whether or not there are any competent bookers in place is another story.
