It was a good sell job, but the notion that he and Michaels are two of the best sellers in the business is laughable. Who would you nominate in their stead?

The problem with selling is the WWE style really. Vince puts on comic book, all american super hero stories in the form of wrestling.
John Cena is not a wrestler overcoming physical abuse to win the fight like in MMA for example, he is a super hero overcoming the villain with his super powers. That is almost literally how they portray him.
Booker T's "limited skills" comment on the last PPV basically implied that he is supernatural in some way. He isn't a wrestler, he is some form of demi-god.

While I have Orton and HBK way up there in terms of selling, I can't deny that Bourne is the best at it. He can literally make any move look like it killed him, hence why he's the one to always be destroyed by the debuting monster hoss.

Y'know, I do recall an interview with Evan Bourne that, to paraphrase, basically said that he liked being a jobber or something along those lines. And really, considering how well he sells moves like death (like Big Show's spear and the times he's taken Cross Rhodes) he'll always have a job in the WWE just because he's the best at looking like he's getting DESTROYED while still being able to pop a crowd with his offense. He's too good at losing.

Randy Orton is a pro wrestler. Now he is on the pro wrestling show, he is a star. Randy Orton is a guy who you could drop into the time era where there were no over the top angles, etc. and he would make it. His entire in ring style, personality and demeanour are old school. The fact he is one of the top 2 in the company and he barely has about 5 minutes of promo time a year says all you need to know. The guy is a bloody good pro wrestler. Damn man, you said it. Orton is much better at pro wrestling than being an entertainer. I can see a new life to him on SD, he's probably loving just going out and working strong matches and carrying the show like a real champ. This is already his best title run.

To be fair, that's not a rare problem. There's the HBK method: "Taken backdrop after backbreaker? Been working my back the whole match? Better kip up!" Heh. I don't think Orton could sell Big Show's punch as well as Slater though. He's made that an art form.

Orton is the best seller I ever saw. I mean, seen.

Once I saw Orton sell Khali's Brain Chop at the 2008(?) Royal Rumble, Iwas sold on the notion that he's the best seller the WWE has. He sold that like The Great Khali split his head in two. His entire body buckled and he just collapsed into himself. To this day, nobody has ever sold it that well again. Orton made it seem like a legit KO blow.

Orton sold the Sweet Chin Music by just folding into his own foot print. He didn't do the usual back bump, his legs just folded and he went down and drooled on the mat with his eyes open like he had been shot.
The only guy I've seen with that selling style recently (since Orton is a face and can't do it as often) is Dolph Ziggler. Usually when he is hit by Kofi's spin kick.

I'd be willing to bet that you could ask multiple veteran wrestlers and they'd tell you that Orton is an amazing seller. They'd also tell you that Triple H is one of the greatest of all time. Because they're under a Legends contract -- or looking for one. If Orton (whose KO selling is indeed great) had been a midcarder for the past seven years, you'd never hear his name mentioned. The only old-timer who will praise a guy not being pushed is Bret. Watch Punk-Orton from Wrestlemania, and then watch Masters-McIntyre from Superstars a few weeks back. Both matches saw the heel destroy the face's knee. Tell me which face did the better job selling the damage and whose performance was better.

Or maybe they really have that opinion. Flair always has had a high opinion of Trips and Orton.
And Orton has been getting praise from legends for a while now.

Orton has been much more interesting since he moved to Smackdown and I agree, his selling of the belt shot was great!

I wonder if Orton gets praise from legends because he wrestles the same boring slow-paced style they did in the past.

I wonder if Orton gets praise from legends because he wrestles the same boring slow-paced style they did in the past. He's a very over wrestler that comes from a wrestling family. And seems to be truly behind his earlier 'out of the ring' problems. And much like Triple H and Cena at times he seems to build off old school wrestling. Why wouldn't they praise him?

Yeah, Cena's problem is that he doesn't sell anything for very long. He sells it, takes a power nap, and then is good as new. To be fair, that's not a rare problem. There's the HBK method: "Taken backdrop after backbreaker? Been working my back the whole match? Better kip up!" I see that as his Hulking up. Show you he still has some fire in him. Sometimes I see him wince a little when he does it. I'm glad he quit before he reached that sad day where he couldn't kip up any more.
