2011 WWE Capitol Punishment Thoughts
United States Championship Match: Kofi Kingston(c) vs. Dolph Ziggler Good opening match. A little slow, but these 2 work great together.
Mentee vs. Mentor Grudge Match: Alex Riley vs. The Miz Slower place as Riley is still green, but I thought it was decent. Though I think Miz should’ve won so Riley ‘s big win would be bigger.
Grudge Match: The Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio Mark Henry destroying Show before the match was great and Del Rio looking good was good, but I don’t get why Show just couldn’t tap to the kneebar.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Wade Barrett(c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson Decent big man match. I’m glad Zeke won and he should be a beast champ. Now hopefully Wade is rebuilt into a main eventer again.
Grudge Match: Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk Really good/great match with good back and forth, counters a sweet sequence in the middle of the match and cool finish. These 2 are awesome together.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Randy Orton(c) vs. Christian Just like Punk & Rey, these 2 are awesome together. Really good/great match will great near falls and a good finish to keep Christian in the Title hunt without taking the title of Randy.
Grudge Match: Jack Swagger vs. Evan Bourne Good filler match with some nice action.
WWE Championship Match: John Cena(c) vs. R-TruthBoring match and had SuperCena at his worse. I mean Truth didn’t even get to kick out of the AA.
Overall: Not a bad PPV with 2 really good/great matches a and a good opener. The Cena match and Fake Obama stuff was HORRIBLE!

Ppvs are FORTY FIVE dollars now? Holy s***. Right?! Its f***ing insane. They aren't putting out a product worthy of that price and shouldn't have gotten the money to start with, IMO. Hell I can't imagine paying damn near fifty bucks for an amazing ppv to be honest.

I don't think anyone really expected R-Truth to win tonight. I don't know why this keeps getting brought up. Because it's an indicator of what's wrong with the company, maybe? As a promotion, you should never let the product become so predictable that fans can say that damn near every time and be RIGHT. Thats not the case though. Ask everyone who they thought was winning the Wrestlemania main event. Ask everyone who they thought was winning the rumble. People go on and on about "Cena wins every PPV" yet they conveniently leave out every time he doesn't and piss themselves because he's won a whopping 3 straight PPVs as the face champ. Never mind his record the last year is 5 wins and 5 losses on PPV.

Also, with the Cena winning thing, it is WWE's most patrotic PPV this year, so having their superhero patriot end the night with a win to send the fans home happy makes sense. But that's the thing. The fans didn't go home happy. At least half of them went home pissed. How could anyone believe that R-Truth had a chance to win this match?

Crazy people can do anything. Truth has been coming on strong the past few months. A lot of other wrestlers have been pushed to the title when they had a lot less going for them.

I didn't see the PPV, so I can't comment on how good or bad each match was, but some thoughts on the results...
Dolph/Kofi - I just find Dolph terribly boring. Kofi makes me think of Koko B Ware. A popular black guy who wears bright colours but loses way too often to be taken seriously.
Riley/Miz - It makes sense for Riley to win. Hopefully WWE will keep his momentum going, but I doubt it.
Alberto/Big Show - I have no interest in the Big Show. Alberto needs a better opponent. I'd like to see Sin Cara vs Alberto.
Zeke/Wade - Zeke is boring. Overmuscled and limited. Wade needed a longer reign as IC champion and now definitely needs a significant period of time alone without a faction to establish a distinct character.
Punk/Rey - Both these guys seem to be treading water for the time being. Punk needs another Jeff Hardy type feud (ie: against a "free spirit" who he can browbeat with Straight Edge). JoMo would be my pick. Rey should feud with Truth. Rey's fans are almost tailor made to be picked on by Truth.
Orton/Christian - I'll presume despite another loss, Christian will have a reason to complain about it and demand another title shot. I am curious however as to when exactly WWE are planning to let Christian win the title again, because with every loss to Orton, no matter what the circumstances, Christian's character looks more like a whining failure.
Evan/Swagger - Everytime I see Swagger, I think it's waste of talent. He needed a ruthless Kurt Angle/Brock Lesnar character. But playing a dork who loses to guys half his size does nothing for him.
Cena/Truth - I've heard a Little Jimmy threw water in Truth's face, and somehow this allowed Cena to win. Another Cena win might not be popular here, but Truth has been bullying Cena's kid fanbase, so it makes sense for him to get his comeuppance from them.

A lot of other wrestlers have been pushed to the title when they had a lot less going for them. It's the summer, it's a new PPV, an it's a guy who was a midcarder his whole career. It was his first WWE Championship match, and his first time he was facing Cena one on one. Sure, it would've been cool to see R-Truth win, but even if he won it until the next PPV and lost it, people would've said "WWE has no faith in him, I'm tired of the status quo! Wah, Wah, Wah!" R-Truth wasn't going to win.

My thoughts on the outcomes (I didn't see it, honestly, and just followed along with the thread):
Ziggs/Kofi How many times have these two faced? Having Ziggler as the U.S. champ seems sensible.
Riley/Miz It's axiomatic to have A-Ry win this match, as having him lose would hurt his current push. If this is the end of this feud, I'm curious as to who Riley will face next?
ADR/Show At least it seems to lead to a coming Mark Henry/Big Show feud.
Barrett/Zeke Time for Wade to claw back into the main event picture.
Rey/Punk I may need to check out this match sometime, as these two usually do good work together. But what is Punk talking about "Honesty". What's he up to?
Orton/Christian They best play up the controversial nature of Orton's victory. And I think they will.
Swaggs/Bourne Filler match. Hey, at least Evan won.
Cena/Truth I do see the reason that Cena came out on top, what with the patriotic overtones and all, and keep in mind,t hat Cena's supposed to be a superhero, or at least the closest WWE can get to a superhero, so the Super-Cena stuff doesn't seem out of place. Plus Truth losing due to a Little Jimmy does make sense, given that his venom has been directed to them.

The problem isn't that R-Truth didn't win the main event. The problem is that they didn't set him up with a decent finish to continue his conspiracy theory storyline. The finish with Christian's foot under the top rope during his match with Orton? They should have either done that finish to the Truth/Cena match or had it happen in both matches with Truth and Christian finding a brother in arms with each other. Instead, Truth had a soda thrown in his face, tossed in the ring, AA and this one is over.

So guys, did CM Punk do anything interesting besides beat Rey? Didn't he say he would do something?

I just hope this stuff doesn't turn out to him leaving. I mean, if it's like a Jericho 2005 type break, yeah. But, if he actaully leave's and goes somewhere else, than that's not good.

The little jimmys he was complaining about helped put the match in Cena's favor. Thats got conspiracy all over it. And it fit his whole Cena storyline.

Punk is playing with everyone, I'm convinced.
Everytime Punk has had a match for the last month or so, its "Punks on the way out so he's obviously losing to Rey/Cena".........and then he wins.
He's pinned Rey and Cena in one week.

I don't really think so, they did the same thing with Jericho... both times. They're obviously building him up to something, though.

Started out good but the slow matches and the stupid skits dragged down everything down.
A below average PPV.

Not a bad show wrestling-wise, but the Obama skits killed it for me, particularly as they were seemingly used to broadcast Vince's political views.
