I think the whole idea of him not being with WWE is kayfabe. What do you think?

I heard he has one of those fancy new nWo contracts, courtesy of Bischoff.

Right now, its 100% likely he's under contract. Its possible his contract is up in August, or that he's taking a little time off.

my gut tells me he signed the extension right before this storyline began.
I think it's either a short term one to finish this off, or a lobng term one with some decent time off promised

I really hope they play this up by letting him "defend" the title in the indies or in Japan before he comes back.

If they DID let him defend on the indies, it'd be hilarious to see someone like Brodie Lee desperately shooting on him to steal the title.

Punk's keeping it in his fridge for now. There should be a weekly "Where's Punk keeping the belt?" segment, where we see the belt stashed away at the pizza shop that just named a pizza for him, with Cabana on his pod cast, with KENTA in Japan at a J-Pop concert, etc.

You really think WWE would be crazy enough to build Punk up like that in a feud if they hadn't signed him to a long contract? Wouldn't suprise me if they got the rights to his name as well.

There's too much money to be made by keeping him under contract, for a little while longer at least.
I wouldn't be suprised if McMahon comes out tonight - says that he's redacting the record and the history books will show that CM Punk did NOT win the WWE title, on account of some technicality or something.
CM Punk comes out and says that he won and then re-signs with WWE so he can win the title again and then leave WWE.
Or something like that.

Yes, and its a testament to the angle that people think he isnt.
Bret Hart was much bigger in 1997 than CM Punk is in 2011. And Bret got double crossed by his employer in order to stop him leaving with the Title, even though he agreed to drop it the next night. There is no way Punk isnt employed right now.

This angle has foresight and is not being hotshotted at all. This was planned for this time. I think he's been re-signed long term and it will be revealed as the angle rolls along. I think he will get some time off, but he's not going anywhere.
I would also like to see him kayfabe leave setting up matches in other companies leading to his return in that respect, but this angle has me hooked, so Im excited to see how it plays out.

I really hope they play this up by letting him "defend" the title in the indies or in Japan before he comes back. Why not? The last significant worked shoot that they did involved the worker in question not only booking matches in the indies but actually working them like a true independent contractor (with a loss to AJ Styles thrown in for good measure, which is something that you would never expect the WWE to allow a contracted worker actually do).

They wouldn't have booked him like an Attitude Era Steve Austin kicking out of everything if he were just leaving.

Earlier this year, it was reported on websites that his contract ran out in September. With this angle, it suddenly changed to July 17th on WWE tv, so my guess is that it is actually still September.

No. Vince isn't actually THAT stupid (stupid non the less) to beat its top merch guy and draw, for the title, and let him go off and have a 'fun time' with it.

no, because it be so much better if heactually swerved the wwe creatives (after convincing them this was all kayfabe and he would resign after winning the title) and really did leave with the belt.
