LOL, he wrote that in "promo voice." Seriously, read it in the Rock's promo voice.

It will be funny to see the difference in the opinion of Rock here, from going back and forth with Cena to going back and forth with Punk.

It will be funny to see the difference in the opinion of Rock here, from going back and forth with Cena to going back and forth with Punk. There shouldn't be. That's one of the risks of doing a promo like that, you can't shoot back if someone comes after you. lol. Whether or not he should have said anything back, knowing this, who knows. But it is in his promo voice.

Problem is, Rocky, you didn't refute anything that Punk claimed about you. He sorta did. Punk was complaining about Rock being in the main event at WM rather than him. Rock explained why that is the case. Punk also claimed Rock was a kiss*** but never went into specifics, so there's nothing for Rock to refute in that regard.

Anyways, if he was going to be a "shooty" dick about it, instead of a kayfabe dick about it, he'd bring up that if it wasn't for the Rock, Punk's WM payout would be a bit smaller, considering the buyrates lately.

Pretty good response, and I don't think anyone can argue that The Rock won't draw better buyrates at Wrestlemania than Punk. Hell, no one could draw better buyrates for 'Mania than The Rock.
Is 'Dwayne' an ass kisser? Not convinced, really. No one's ever said anything like that about him before, to my knowledge. In general, he seems to be well liked by those in the business (even Bubba Ray likes him!), and that usually means he's actually a likable guy. But it was a good seque for Punk to bring up the Wrestlemania main event.
Though I've got to say, I'd much prefer a Rock v Punk feud than Rock v Cena.

I know this site loves to over-hype everything Punk does but the calling The Rock an ass-kisser was the first part of the promo he did where I thought he'd made a mistake. Rocky pretty much became bigger than the entire company and left for Hollywood. Now unlike people like Hogan, on his way out and on almost all his returns afterward he'd gladly lose the match to put the other person over. Even at times where people backstage didn't want it to happen (The Hurricane, anyone?)
I'd say that Rock is certainly appreciative of Vince's help in making his career, who wouldn't be in the position he's in now, but to mention him in the same breath as Cena just doesn't work. The one time Cena complained and tried to get them to push someone, they actually went through with it. Remember Evan Bourne getting a victory over then-champion Sheamus? It was only about two or three weeks though until Cena seemed to get cold feet about it and Evan went back down the card.
Also, Rocky is 100% correct with his comments. Punk may be good, he may even be great, but he'll never match the sheer level of entertainment The Rock could provide. Still, I'm sure this is still part of the work and Rock is just moving the storyline along anyway.

I saw the shoot on YouTube, and Punk knowing exactly when his mic cut off was a dead giveaway that it was scripted (as if something like that would be unscripted to begin with). Another thing is that even though they did the cut off abruptly well (even down to the detail of not putting the signature at the end) USA went to their post Raw commercials immediately after they cut the feed. Had they truly cut the feed like that, USA would not have been ready to run a commercial that quickly. We would have had about 10 seconds of black.

It's not real, why are you analyzing a promo with backstage stuff. The concept of it may be real, but the promo is not. He's speiling off a list of top babyfaces. Then someone else responds with a kayfabish "shoot" comment and we're analyzing that, too. lol.
Hell, maybe I'm starting to see why they book for the kids.

For anyone who cares, Jim Rome played Punk's promo on his radio show this afternoon. Of course, like most sports commentators, he hates wrestling, never comments on wrestling, and knows nothing about wrestling, but he played Punk's promo because he thinks it's legit.
For those who don't know, Jim Rome has one of the most popular sports talk radio shows in the USA and Canada, and has an ESPN TV Show. That's millions of people that heard that promo that never would of heard that before. Just the publicity that the WWE wanted.

Thanks for including the background, it's hard to get a feeling for this type of thing without it. It’s interesting that the Rock’s comments almost support Punk’s argument, maybe he’d be drawing the huge buy-rate if he had the films and music promoting him, he could even complain that him singing Sinatra was cut while the Rock duets with Wyclef Jean and sings about pie.
