I didn't think about this for a while, but I can't believe I didn't tihnk about it before. While The Rock is in great shape, he hasn't wrestled a match since 2004. Also, while Cena has grown on me, I wouldn't consider him one of the people that can carry anyone to a good match if needed like HBK or Angle.
We all know this will be one of the biggest, most hyped matches in Mania history and will get a huge buyrate, but do you think the match will deliver as a "classic" like the HBK/Taker WM matches?

Yes. Even if its mediocre, the white hot crowd will carry it through. Plus when the crowd is firmly against him, Cena steps up his game.

Depends on your expectations. Both guys are capable of putting together an exciting matchup but it's hard to say how well they'll work together until it happens. Plus it kinda sucks since there's only one way this match can end.
I'll put it like this: if you think the match will be disappointing or underwhelming going in, then you're likely to be pleasantly surprised. If you're expecting a HBK/Undertaker-level clash, then you're gonna hate it.

As long they both show up they pretty much will.
I mean, at worst, they'l brawl around with a hot crowd, Rock will do his signatures no one has seen for years and will get mega pops, Cena will do his to huge boos. And the finish will probably be pretty cool.

Hogan/Rock was awesome, and Hogan isn't the greatest worker in the world.

Easily. But then again, I've always felt both Rock and Cena's in-ring skills have been generally underrated.
I'm not asking for a good deal of finesse. I fully expect a near-fall fest with big spot after big spot.

My concern is what if one of them gets injured just before Mania?
A years hype over nothing.

I imagine they're going the Warrior/Hogan route and planning every step of this match well in advance. Should be a good one.

If Cena puts the effort in, it should be good.

No it won't be a classic but the hype going into the match and the white hot crowd will carry it to being a memorable match much like Hogan vs Rock wasn't very memorable in ring wise but it was a memorable match.
It doesn't have to be a five star technical match to deliver.

It will be just like Hogan - Rock. A good match.

Rock will have worked matches before WM, even if no one has seen them.
The only problem I can think of is that the WWE's crackhead schedule will make it hard for Cena and Rock to rehearse the match a bajillion times.

They certainly will need to make sure the Rock can handle a 20 minute match. I'd just be afraid that while rehearsing, he might injure himself because he's not used to the physical demand of it anymore. At the very least the electricity over the match will deliver.

I doubt it. Rock was never a good wrestler and with 7 or 8 years of not wrestling, I don't see him getting any better. Cena might be able to get him to something good though.
Crowd reaction should be good though.

I doubt its going to be any kind of a 5 star classic but the atmosphere should be enough to make it memorable.
The 1 sided outcome I could do without. Its better to have a match where there is at least a bit of question who could win

Crowd reaction should be good though. He's alot better than you're giving him credit for. In shape he's no better or worse than Cena. He has more than enough spots, as long as he doesn't maim himself during one of them like he almost did when he got into it with the Miz and Riley. If you have spots, you can script and rehearse a match. And the crowd will care. So you're most of the way home.

I go back and forth about this a lot because Cena and The Rock do have similar styles so my concern is the match maybe a little bland as far the in ring aspect. But the build is already so good that I am sure they will make the match good too.

It all comes down to The Rock. I KNOW Cena will put on a great match, but I'm more worried about Big D's ring rust.
