That chant is justified just for that amazing moment at ONS all those years ago.
"YOU CAN'T WRESTLE! YOU CAN'T WRESTLE!"
Cena pulls out some cool move he's never used before.
Palpable pause.
"YOU STILL SUCK! YOU STILL SUCK!"

Cena will never get the recognition because hes so predictable. The Rock/Punk/Stone Cold are great because you never knew what they were gonna do, Cena will never get it. Punk is slightly unpredicatable but every Rock and Austin match I ever saw was more predictable than a Hogan match

Yeah, Rock and Austin were predictable. And frankly, even the guys with bigger movesets slip into a routine after a while.
The Cena chant is a fun audience participation thing. I doubt he takes it any more seriously than any other wrestler who gets chants. He's probably just glad people care enough to shout something during his match.

Can one of the wrestling experts here articulate exactly how CM Punk "tells a story" in a WWE match, in the WWE style, in a way that Cena "can't"? (I'm not talking about any ROH stuff, I mean his WWE matches). I mean, where's the beef in that terminology?

I'm not much for audience participation. I'm beginning to think I'd have really loved AWA in 1989

maybe you would prefer if the fans just never stood up, cheered or anything maybe just clapped like an audience in Japan or something.

I don't mind it. For me it has nothing to do with" Smarkness" or any of that bullshit. He doesn't entertain me with his character and in the ring. Good i give him credit for the MITB match and last nights but most of the times his matches suck ass imo.

I think it's just one of those hit-or-miss things... it either enhances the atmosphere for a fan or detracts from it. I'm just the opposite... I can't stand silence during a match. It drives me crazy.

I don't get it because Cena has proven time and time again that he is a very good wrestler who consistantly has great matches, especially on PPV's were the Cena match is usually the match of the night. I don't think he always has match of the night (as in last night, the Orton/Christian match was better). But I also think the majority of people who hate Cena would rather give credit to his opponents for their great job of "carrying" him when he's in a good match.

Fun Fact: Chavo Guerrero is the one who starts the "YOU CAN'T WRESTLE" chants so Cena can step up his game.
