I just don't get it.
What do the Zack Ryder enthusiasts in the IWC see in him that I don't?
I compare him to Charlie Haas, who IMO had better in-ring skills, a little more charisma and was at least comparable on the mic. I'd much rather see Charlie in his role, or on the roster in his place.
Ryder has a very enthusiastic following online. Please help me understand why.

Ryder is funny and entertaining to me. Some things just naturally appeal more to some people than to others. Also, his underdog style recovery from being the jobber among all jobbers to finally climbing and getting tv time is incredibly nice to follow from the beginning.
He made an effort to connect with his fanbase, and did it in a funny way. And every time he's on my tv, he entertains the hell outta me. That's why I like him.

Ehhh, you kinda lost me when you said Charlie Haas had more charisma.
But people want Ryder to succeed because he has an entertaining character and has actually worked pretty hard to get himself over online.

Ryder has grown on me, not sure why. Though I will say that while Haas is better in the ring, Ryder has him in the charisma department.

He is one of the youngest members of the roster, who was looking at a looming release, and decided to do something about it. He is genuinely into the business, and is willing to work hard and try new things (the one-leg tights, the youtube show) to get over. He also has a fun gimmick, and looks like he is genuinely having fun out there. I personally have no problem with Haas, but I would rather have Ryder. Different strokes for different folks. Hopefully this helped. If not, this might just be one of those positions where you'll just have to be on the outside looking in on the Zack Ryder parade.

Don't worry, I think he's overrated myself. Not bad, but overrated.

Ryder has a very enthusiastic following online. Please help me understand why. Well, having a show on Youtube every week helps. If you've seen Johnny Curtis's promos on Smackdown with all the puns, you can thank this show because it's the inspiration for Curtis's character. Except "Z! True Long Island Story" is much funnier and entertaining than Curtis is right now. I'm glad he's getting TV time now because of his successful following. He was a talented Superstar over on ECW, and he generally had good matches on WWE Superstars.

He's done everything possible in his power to become as over as he is. I find that very admirable. So many guys down through the years have moped and bitched about the hand they've been dealt, and then act surprised and bitter when the WWE releases them. Ryder has gotten himself over with an audience who love him through himself and himself alone it seems. Personally, that's why I like him and get behind him so much. He is passionate and dedicated to his craft.

If he hadn't WOO WOO WOO'd the universe, there is a pretty good chance he would be getting released right now along with all the others.

He does need a better finisher though.

He does need a better finisher though. I like the Rough Ryder/leg lariat, much better than the Zack Attack/Golden Rule/Modified Playmaker

I like the "out of nowhere" aspect of the Rough Ryder, but it doesn't look too damaging. Maybe if he hit the Rough Ryder then immediately went for a submission it would look cooler. The Zack Attack used to be pretty good, but it lacked the out of nowhere factor.
So I prefer the Rough Ryder, to be honest. It's hard to suspend my disbelief at times that he can one-shot-kill Kozlov with it, for example, but it's still pretty good and there are people with worse finishers.

His schtick is very annoying to me. But he has tons of charisma.
Hell, Jersey Shore is the most unwatchable garbage I've ever seen, yet it's one of the most popular shows of the last decade.
Apparently I have very different tastes than the majority of the general public.

Jericho nailed it in his book when he talked about learning that you have to take every opportunity, no matter how small, and make the most of it -- even if it's a 10-second part of a promo. I'll admit Zack has done that, and I applaud it for him even if he doesn't appeal to me.

He is doing what he loves and is having fun doing it. He isn't complaining about jobbing or being held down. Isn't ranting and crying in shoot videos about not being used. He's simply busting his butt to entertain fans and he has won me over.

Couldn't we just have default to last week's "I don't get Zack Ryder" thread for the answer here? Or the one from the week before that? Or the week before that?
