Seriously, did he even have a heel turn this time? Cause it seems like he stopped fighting Pope and started fighting Crimson instead for no real reason.

In retrospect, which is funny because a ton of people actually were disgruntled with it at the time, the whole 'Nation of Violence' angle was a huge misstep.
The orginal intention is great, a pissed-off babyface Joe getting revenge on all the MEM and destroying them one by one.
But the new look was really bad, some of the said violence was eye-rolling and then he joins the MEM for the sake of SWERVE~!, wrecking his storyline and getting overshadowed.

If I were in Joe's position, I would probably be an out-of-shape performer who mails it in as well. It's not like TNA is giving him any reason to be motivated. At this point, I think Joe is simply content with making a steady paycheck and appearing on TV/PPV.

Joe should had left when he had the chance but probably because of his family and fear of working the current wrestling scene, he stayed. The legend of Samoa Joe is only memories. New Japan don't even ask for him for their Dome shows nor their Northeast tour of the US. His stock is almost irrelevant. Even if he left TNA tomorrow, there won't be many indies asking for his services.

What's really telling about Joe is that even as an out of shape performer that mails it in, he's still one of the best wrestlers on their roster. HHH should tell CM Punk that he'll offer Joe a WWE contract if Punk will stay. That would make me a very happy camper.
