After a lot of speculation, former WWE and current TNA star Kurt Angle has confirmed he will be trying out for the 2012 United States Olympic Wrestling Team. Angle, a gold medalist in the 1996 games in Atlanta, Georgia, will be 43 at the time of the games if he makes it.
Tryouts for the squad are scheduled for this upcoming April. Regarding his TNA commitments Angle was quoted in saying “TNA gave me their blessing. I don’t have to do much [in terms of TNA shows]—maybe two to four TVs a month and a pay-per-view”. Angle has also revealed that he has previously thought of trying out, but decided against it due to injuries.
Angle has already begun preparing for the games and if he makes the squad he will be the oldest man ever to represent the United States in wrestling. The 2012 Summer Olympics will be taking place next year in London, England.

Thoughts? Personally, I fear for him, but also think he could still go.

I didn't take into account how this could be TNA's next big publicity stunt, which will do nothing for them more than likely. Like, perhaps it's an angle (no pun intended) and he'll have "Olympic wrestling exhibitions" on the weekly shows. Wouldn't put it past them.

Exactly this is just a publicity stunt for TNA and Kurt Angle don't read too much into it.

I concur. But, nevertheless, good luck to him.

At this point, I've learned to stop doubting Kurt Angle.
He'll end up with the gold. He's too insane not to. Seriously. He'll qualify, even if his head falls off.

I hope this really is a publicity stunt and Angle will end up backing out at the last minute. Otherwise, Kurt is just setting himself up for defeat and embarassment. Nevertheless, I have to admire his insanity.

I love me some Kurt Angle, I still think he's one of the best wrestlers going today. That said, I don't think this is a good call. He might still be able to go, hell, he might still be better than most others but I really fear for his safety more than anything else. I hope this doesn't result in another broken FREAKIN' neck...

There's something about Angle that makes me think this will ended up in a shocking result. And not in a negative way... I actually have this odd feeling he'll make the team.

I'd laugh if during one of Kurt's "training" sessions Jarrett shows up and brains him with the El Kabong. The feud will never end anyways, may as well have some fun with it.
Seriously though:
Countless pro wrestling related injuries + Olympic drug tests + 44 years old = Nothing good.

He can start training once he finishes up his MMA career.

I have a strange feeling that he'll walk away with the gold, and not a single lesson will be learned that day. A man that crazy won't settle for less.

If he actually tries out, he won't even come close to qualifying for the team, let alone winning a medal.

Tryouts are "this upcoming April"? As in a year away? I'd have thought they would have started earlier than that given the Olympics are next year
