For me, the end all be all Batman is Kevin Conroy. Between several animated series, moves and video games, he IS Batman for a generation IMO.

Keaton, but I stand by my claim that Clooney could have been the best Batman under a better director.

My first thought was Keaton but as soon as I saw Conroy, yeah there was no way I was voting anyone else.

For pure performance, Conroy. But honestly, of the physical actors, Keaton has come the closest IMHO, both with Bats and Bruce Wayne.

Kevin Conroy, hands down. He even does the whole "Bruce Wayne and Batman have different voices" thing pretty much perfectly. Hell he's probably the only one of the actors who gives Bruce and Batman different voices and neither one sound stupid or forced, both his Bruce voice and Batman voice sound like natural voices.

I went with Michael Keaton. The 1989 Batman movie is AWESOME, but has been eclipsed by the new Batman movies, which I can't really comment on as I have yet to see them. I just REALLY hate Christian Bale as an actor. I couldn't care less about his personal life or that tape he made, which I just find funny, but his acting has always come across as bland to me.

Conroy overall.
But as for live-action Batmen, I think Kilmer struck the perfect Bruce Wayne/Batman balance. He's followed by Bale, who I thought had the most badass Batman in spite of that silly voice.
After him is Keaton, who had a good Bruce but never emoted the way I felt he should have at times while wearing the Batsuit. Then West, who's campily fun, then Clooney last who pretty much just played himself throughout Batman & Robin.

I guess it all depends on what you grew up with as a kid. I'll go with the Batman I used to watch every single day after school.

Whenever I think of Batman, or picture any Batman scene, I hear Conroy. So him.
I liked Bale's Bruce Wayne the best, honestly. He played every trait very well, imo.

As much as I love Conroy's voice acting, I thought Greenwood was nearly as effective in Under the Red Hood so I can't really in good conscience vote for Conroy on that. West is just a cartoon, Kilmer was excessively bland, Clooney was stuck in an awful movie and couldn't elevate it, and Keaton was really boring and doesn't really fit any part where he isn't at least a little bit over the top (and doesn't look the part of Batman in the least). So by that token, I'll give it to Bale, mainly because he was magnificent in Batman Begins and solid in The Dark Knight.

Whenever you needed to get rid of a bomb, West was your man... even on the days when you just couldn't get rid of a bomb.
