Norvell Austin, longtime star in Memphis who never made it on the big stage. Very nice choice...Norvell was superb...first guy I ever saw do a Moonsault in 1981 or so, and a good jive-talkin' promo guy! On the same token, I would also nominate Porkchop Cash...not a good promo guy but he was a very good worker in the ring and had a very solid physique... While I'm at it, Troy "Dream Machine" Graham has to be on that list...good worker, pretty big guy who was in really good shape at one point as well and a hell of a great talker...

"Above Average" Mike Sanders was always one of my favorites in later WCW. Never understood why WWE couldn't find something for him to do.
He wasn't around long before the company folded, but I was a fan of Jason Jett too.

I went to a NWA: Rampage Pro Wrestling show earlier. I was pretty much unfamiliar with the roster but after seeing these guys I've gotta say Adam Pearce, and Jimmy Rave Approved are some of my new favorites. Adam Pearce is such an awesome heel. Some dude threw something at him before the main event and he threatened to leave unless security kicked the guy out. Awesome stuff. Yeah, Pearce is awesome. Don't understand the hate he gets. He had one of my favorite match endings this year in a match with Eric Watts(yes, the guy from Tough Enough). Pearce came off the ropes for a lariat, Watts ducks, and Pearce stops dead in his tracks, shrugs, and pile drives him for the win. So simple, but a great way to tell a story of outsmarting the big monster type guy. He's really great for an oldschool type wrestler. He had a match with a pretty good local talent named Kyle Matthews for the NWA title, and at the beginning of the show he cut a promo. When the interviewer mentioned that Kyle Matthews was voted "best technical wrestler in Georgia" Adam said something along the lines of "being the best technical wrestler in Georgia is like winning the special Olympics, you're still retarded". I know it's a tired joke, but I was laughing my ass off because it's so true.

Does anyone remember a guy named Norvell Austin? He wrestled in Mid-South and then later teamed with Koko B Ware in WCCW as the PYTs.

Super Calo is my favorite luchador of all time. I loved Mr. X as a kid as well.

I think Art Barr really would've been a great success if he hadn't died when he did. Shame.

I think Art Barr really would've been a great success if he hadn't died when he did. Shame. He was quite the success in Mexico. From what I understand, he was supposed to come into ECW with Eddie as a tag team. From there, who knows what. A shame, indeed.

One of mine was The Demon Dale Torborg I loved seeing his matches plus I thought it was awesome he came out to God Of Thunder and looked like Gene Simmons in the demon make up.

Glacier and Jerry Flynn! Flynn looked bad ass and looked like he was killing the guy he was wrestling, turns out he was breaking ribs with his kicks. Mine is Scott Norton I thought he was a Powerhouse straight out of a Stalone movie in WCW This guy was badass, and the only reason Buff Bagwell in the nWo was tolerable.

Mark Starr and Chris Champion (legit brothers) tagged as Wildside in Memphis. I enjoyed them. Also Iceman King Parsons and Brickhouse Brown as the Blackbirds. assuming this is the same Mark Starr as the one that was in Men At Work in WCW, he was my favorite WCW jobber. I musta rewatched that match where he actually pinned Juvi with a northern lights suplex like 500 times.

Great call, outside of the ring Fleisch is a thoroughly nice guy too which is always a bonus. I always get a kick out of matches with Tom Zenk in his Z-Man gimmick (early 90s WCW).

I love this thread. So many of these names have conjured up memories. It's like appreciating the unappreciated.
I came up with a few more. They're not wrestlers, but I love the late'80s/early '90s independent wrestling promoters like Herb Abrams, Joel Goodhart, and Gordon Scozzari.

Mr. Gannosuke.,even when FMW died, I never really liked how Kintaro Kanemura essentially blacklisted him to the z-grade Indys, which I felt was unfair to a really underrated Heel.

"Nightmare" Ted Allen.
Actually, depending on how you define "obscure," a lot of guys from southern territories & indies could count.
