Not really obscure but Yoshihiro Takayama. The dude is legit tough as shown by the epic beating he took from don frye in a legit MMA bout in pride.
He's also won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, the AJPW Triple Crown Championship, and the GHC Heavyweight Championship yet is never mentioned with names like Misawa , Kobashi , Taue , Baba , Tsuruta and , Kawada.

I think there are two reason big Tak doesn't get put with those other names. 1. He doesn't have as many moves as they do. 2. He was most dominant in the 2000's. A lot of puro fans can't seem to move beyond the '90's.

I don't know how obscure he would be, since he's become a mainstay on the PWG undercard, but Pretty Peter Avalon. He plays a heel so damn well, but it's impossible to boo the guy. It's weird.

Generally any late 90s WCW mid/lowercarder will cause me to mark out, but I was just thinking the other day about how much I really liked Lash Leroux and thought he was destined for great things.

He's not really obscure but I'd guess that a good bit of current fans have no idea who Hakushi is. I've always loved Shinzaki and that gimmick.

Spike Huber. Only because I used to know him personally. You knew Spike Huber? I'll never forget Eli the Eliminator piledriving him on the Sportatorium floor and ol' Spike reaching for his construction helmet at the last minute before his head hit the ground.

My god, I haven't thought about Masayuki Naruse in years. He was pretty good. Crazy Cyclone for the win.

JW Storm pops into my mind. He was teaming with Art Barr, and got some time in WCW. I makred out for his Widowmaker era ponytail. He went over some folks, but never stuck.

I liked Pistol Pez Whatley. I remember the night he turned heel on "The Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant, cutting the braid off from his long beard. Then he became "Shaska" Whatley.
"The Unpredictable" Johnny Rodz is another guy you don't think about. Built roughly the same as Pistol Pez, Bruno would tout his nickname, but he was, in fact, very predictable if he faced a halfway-decent WWF Superstar. Poor Johnny would be looking up at the lights.

The Jackyl AKA Cyrus The Virus, AKA Don Callis was awesome on the mic and I felt had alot of potential, too bad everybody in the WWF locker room hated him.

Rip Rogers. If you haven't seen any of his matches do yourself a favor and watch as many as you can find. Rip is without a doubt one of the most entertaining wrestlers ever.

The entire WCW midcard and undercard through most of the 90s.
The Gambler, Roadblock, JL, High Voltage, and of course....
GLACIER!
I was all about Glacier before CHIKARA made him cool again.
Heh. Cool.

Rip Rogers. If you haven't seen any of his matches do yourself a favor and watch as many as you can find. Rip is without a doubt one of the most entertaining wrestlers ever. "Hustler" Rip Rogers is indeed entertaining. I'm going to say Ron Wright. I haven't seen any of his wrestling career, because he worked almost exclusively in the old Knoxville territory, and they didn't save their footage. However, he worked as a manager in the '80s for whatever group the Fullers were running, and again in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. That's the reason I'm picking the guy. His run in SMW is absolutely hilarious. This former vicious heel comes out in a wheelchair, talking about how he was a clean scientific wrestler who always tried to please the fans, but the beatings he took in the process have left him in the chair, needing hip and knee replacements and suffering from arthritis in his back. He has a manager's license and hopefully will sign someone and make the money he needs for the surgeries. Every week, he would update the people and his ailments would grow worse. All the while, he's appearing at ringside "scouting," and interfering for the heels. At one point, he has the production crew show an address on screen where the fans can send donations to help him pay for his surgeries. The next week, he comes out and angrily insults everyone for not sending money, then goes back into his frail old man routine as he asks for donations again. Everyone kept waiting for him to stand up and interfere, especially once he began managing the Dirty White Boy. He stayed in the chair about 9 months before he finally stood up and walked to interfere. Then he went right back to the chair and in watching the old footage, I haven't seen him get back out of it yet. Awesome, hilarious, and sadly unknown by most fans.

Franky the Mobster.
3 Quebec indy talents had "it". Franky, Kevin Steen & El Generico. Of course, Steen & Generico have made it as big as you can in independent wrestling. Franky himself even had his one-off appearances in PWG and ROH but it never amounted to him coming to the U.S. full-time.
