Yea I know, I'm late but whatever. I've never liked FPS games so I was never interested in this game, but after hearing so much about it and my PS3 collection being very very bare, I finally picked up a used copy for $9.99 a few weeks ago.
I did a bad karma run on very easy mode (remember I suck at FPS) that first week. Did no sidequests or anything and while I loved the game, I felt that it wasn't as massive as I expected. So I bumped the difficulty up to normal and decided to do all the sidequests and keep good karma.
This game has completely sucked me in now. I know it has some flaws, mostly in the way of weird glitches, but they're not so common that it ruins the game for me and are usually hilarious anyway.
So far my favorite parts have been Tranquility Lane (the obvious choice), the Stealing Liberty quest, and the overwhelming joy I had when I finally found Oasis.
Is New Vegas as good as this one? I found a new copy for $9.99 and am planning on picking it up as soon as possible.

I don´t have it in me to do an evil run. I try but once I get to Moria Brown I just fall for her cuteness and have to be nice to everyone. She´s a witch I tell you.

I'm replaying Fallout 3 at the moment. It is an awesome game, just a shame about the stupid glitches that sometimes crop up.
In some ways New Vegas is better than Fallout 3. It had a better storyline and more options about who to work for etc but there is much less to explore and the map seems emptier than in Fallout 3. New Vegas (the town/casino area, not the game) is a bit of a disapointment once you reach it.
It gets hyped up by townspeople and travellers yet when you get there it doesn't really live up to the hype. Maybe it could have done with a few extra games to play in the Casino's to make it more fun?

I did a good run the first time and when I got the GOTY edition, I ended up doing another good run. I have New Vegas but haven't played much of it.

Ha, for the most part the bad things I did just involved robbing everybody and killing people if I got caught. But I genuinely felt bad about myself when I rigged the bomb in Megaton to explode, and watched the massive explosion from Tenpenny Tower. I felt so bad that I actually turned around and murdered Allistair Tenpenny and Mr. Burke. Got good Karma from it too lol. I think some of the side quests would be much more fun if I was going for bad karma. Tranquility Lane certainly was much more fun that way, but was more satisfying in the end when I did things the right way. That's a shame about New Vegas. It sounds great but not as good as it should be. How about the Brotherhood of Steel game for the PS2? I see that it got good reviews on google and isn't the same type of game, but is it good for what it is? I'm thinking of buying it if it's not one of those rare expensive PS2 games.

I did both evil and good run, though I never did a completely evil run, ala say everything evil.
I'm pretty sure I made about 13 different characters and played through them all in every story mission and DLC.
Wish I still had it.

That's a shame about New Vegas. It sounds great but not as good as it should be. New Vegas is a much better role-playing game than Fallout 3 and the closest thing to a real sequel to Fallout 2 that we're going to get. F*** that shit.

Don't let what I said about New Vegas put you off btw!
It's still a great game. The quests are still all a lot of fun, the characters are great etc. It's just there's less places to explore and the title town itself a let down.

If you just want to blow up some ugly mutants and stuff, though, Fallout 3 might be better for that purpose.

I really preferred Fallout 3. New Vegas was a HUGE disappointment for me, because it seemed like the city was going to be gigantic, and it just turned out to be more dilapidated slums with a few empty casinos.
After Fallout 3 and its emptiness, which was okay, I was hoping for a change of pace. Didn't get it with New Vegas.

The Gamebryo engine they used for these games is absolutely terrible and will shit itself if you try to make it render any kind of a large town area with lots of people. Not that that makes the empty casinos and small areas any better, but at least there is a reason for that.

The other problem with New Vegas (and I do think it's rather good), is that it's done by Obsidian. Now I know they are the remains of Black Isle - thats not the problem. The problem is is that they can't bug test for shite - never have been able to. The game is still buggy even now.

I did a completely Evil run on my first go, nuked Megaton, shot Tenpenny and Burke, let the ghouls into the tower, killed them and them set out killing every MF'er who stood in my way! Except for Harold, I didn't have the heart to kill him. Seriously, look on Youtube for a video of him being burned. It's a haunting sound.

Not that that makes the empty casinos and small areas any better, but at least there is a reason for that. I know, and it's sad that they tried to pick one of the glitziest cities in the country for an engine that can barely support it. With a strong engine, that could've been an amazing experience. But the game is such a letdown in that aspect, and it's so damn buggy.

Yea I never found Oasis when I did my evil run, but I doubt I would have had the heart to kill him anyway. Poor guy was already miserable. Though I DID destroy his heart in my current good karma run, I don't think that counts though because that's what he wanted.

Man, I never really had any problems being evil in Fallout 3.
Though, it is practically impossible to stay evil in New Vegas, considering way more stuff nets you good karma than bad. I went completely evil in Legion, did everything for bad karma (except let the twins kill Cass. I'm not THAT heartless) and yet I was a neutral and then good karma guy cause a lot of missions just give you good karma, especially if you kill those raiders that always attack you.

It's good but not Fallout good. It misses the most important thing. The humor
NV has it on the other hand.

I innitially burned him, but then felt sorry for him so reloaded and gave him what he wanted. There was something so likeable about the great oaf that made me show him mercy whereas I had no qualms about blowing up Megaton, enslaving a child for the Slavers, murdering anyone who I could etc.

Don't get me wrong, I PLANNED to, but I made one stupid small mistake. I decided to try out the Mesmetron on one of the slavers thinking I could just re-load the game if things went bad. Instead of being able to turn him into a slave, the entire compound went ballistic and started shooting at me. I instinctively went through a door to find cover, and the game autosaved. So I was stuck having to kill all the slavers in the compound. Either that or load from my last hard save, 3 hours ago.
