They can still recover, hence why I don't think it's Jump The Shark thing. That and I love the "Crowning" tropes. Didn't they get rid of all the 'Crowning' labels? If I remember rightly, now it's just 'Awesome Moment', which is not only blander, but also no clearer for new readers than the previous wording.

For all the anger I have for the "Re-working" I kinda agree with this one. Logically there should only be ONE Crowning Moment in a series. Dropping the "crowning" allows for more expansion.

TV Tropes suffered too much from Flanderization

I still go there a lot, it's a great way to kill time. that said, the stuff that gets considered "nightmare fuel" there is pretty laughable.

Your Mileage May Vary. I love TVTropes. Could spend hours at a time on it.

I used to love going on there, and getting lost for hours. Scared the hell out of myself at 3 AM reading Nightmare Fuel entries. My problem is that, after a while, you realize how exaggerated everything is described, particularly on pages that are more subjective (Nightmare Fuel, Crowning Moments, etc.), to the point where it just becomes self-parody and takes away any value originally possessed by the subject. Tell me about it, some of the Nightmare fuel ones are just kinda pathetic and embarrassing.

Also, they seem to be preoccupied with irrelevant stuff.

Another thing I hate is that how often some of the Headscrathers are just nitpicky or whinging about how the story doesn't take advantage of somebodies abilities.
Example, someone bought up how the strategists in Suikoden never use Viki's teleportation spells. They fail to remember that Viki is unreliable at best with her magic and can accidentally teleport you away halfway across the nation or even to another time or world.

So has TV Tropes now become The Scrappy?

I like that they have the "Laconic" pages now, which is a simpler version of things. Whenever I go to a trope page I just ignore the block of text and go straight for the laconic. Granted, sometimes even those do the self-referential crap, but usually it's just straight text with no link. I pretty much check the laconic for every page now, just out of curiosity. I think the worst I ever saw was for the Finger Poke of Doom: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Laconic/FingerPokeOfDoom Seriously? The entire laconic is just combining two other tropes? For the love of god, you could have written that without linking it to other tropes. Another huge pet peeve: The fact that the trope names for heel/face turns are called "Face Heel Turn" and "Heel Face Turn" and then acts like that's what they're actually called.

There was a guy who was briefly part of a tabletop game I was in who insisted on "troping" every part of his character, just going through and applying the terms randomly to parts of his character. It was insanely annoying, especially when he began using it during play and acting like we all knew/care about what TV tropes happened to call something.

TV Tropes boils down to a bunch of folks making up cute lingo with a whole lot of awkward innuendos. It's basically the E! network for geeks. that's some Insane Troll logic (ok, that's a bit much....) I still enjoy the site, great way to kill a few hours for me.

I will say that I have discovered many good forms of entertainment thanks to the site. It's a good way of deciphering whether I'll like something or not just based on the tropes actually.

And unfortunately, even they use the overrused and idiotic candlejack m (gives CJ pie) eme
But seriously, i still love the site. The Hilarious in hindsight/funny aneyrusym moment/harsher in hindsight pages in paticular<sp>, as well as what do you mean its not for kids, misaimed marketing, doorstopper, and have a gay old time.
