I know a lot of people love the site, and I admit there is some interesting stuff on it... but I can't help but get "douche chills" reading it often. I think what annoys me is the fact that every trope entry, instead of explaining things, references like 5 other tropes in it, so to even get what the hell is being said either you have to obsessively memorize as many tropes as possible, or look them all up. It comes off as people trying to cram as many references as they can in for the sake of doing it.

I hate when people use the tropes listed on TVTropes as if they're all proper nouns, and capitalize every word. Especially when it comes to phrases that existed already, like Your Mileage May Vary or Femme Fatale.

I think I would enjoy that website more if I actually took the time to understand the layout

I hate how people use them assuming everyone knows what they mean.

I hate how people use them assuming everyone knows what they mean. While I'm generally okay with the website, my pet peeve is that it carries this atmosphere that every article is actual showbiz jargon when very few of them are - basically, an undeserved sense of authority.

Yea that's my only real problem with the site. There are way too many tropes that were just made up to describe a certain plot point or something.

I like the site for some things, but I find the way it's been taking over by people determined to make it a clone of Wikipedia has killed my interest in it for the most part. I used to spend hours on it, now I look maybe once a week.

My favourite thing about TV Tropes is that the trope "Xanatos' Gambit" just sounds ike a badass name for a finisher.

The problem with TVTropes is that it's a great site in concept, but the people who use and contribute to it are total douchebags. I've never seen such a grand simultaneous display of elitism AND anonymity before.
It used to be a very accessible site where anyone could go there and get lost for hours. A lot of people still do, but it's now because I have no idea what the f*** an entry on something means without looking up at least 5 other pages. It's become the ultimate members' only club on the internet.

One of the most annoying things was when fans were going out of their way to apply their favorite show/movie/comic book/whatever to as many trope pages as possible (when I first found the site, the biggest offender was Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, which was somehow shoehorned onto like every single page on the site)
The most annoying thing NOW, is yes, people who try to apply terms from the site into their everyday manner of speaking.

I love the site but don't disagree with you, OP. It is a bit annoying. Also, looking through some Nightmare Fuels entries...wow, these are like the most easily scared people ever. I remember reading one recently where a troper described in detail how a movie scene made him/her, and I quote "vomit out of pure shock". The movie in question? The Incredibles.

I spent at least two days reading stuff on that site when I first learned about it and yeah, I hate that they use other tropes to describe the one you're reading. So annoying. I also thought the editing was very bad (if there's any at all) in that a lot of the posts and additions to the tropes were all like "wait, like, there was this one scene in that one episode, and, like, this is totally that, right?" It was a very poor attempt at replicating Wikipedia's way of doing things. I don't know if it's any better now or not.

Hmm, I think there being loads more tropes to read up about are part of the fun of it and one of the reasons why you can get lost in it for an hour.

It's become the ultimate members' only club on the internet. THIS. I browsed the Site quite often, with it even bumping the forms from my Homepage for a while. Then I just.....stopped. I took a break and apparently there was some MASSIVE changeover in the upper echelons of the Site's administration. ~ Trope Names were changed (To Help facilitate use/Simplify definitions) ~ Entire Sections were blanked/Gutted/Etc. (Once again...."Ease of Use") ~ Troper tales (Essentially anecdotal use of Tropes in your life) had been edited, then relegated to it's own Wiki...then the wiki was locked, thus NEGATING the purpose of having a Wiki. Do I still use the site.....Yes, and I still enjoy it....but there's something wrong with the new site. It's semi-helpful for "Remember That Show" (Assuming you GET a reply) but it's just not the same.
