Not knocking the guy or anything, I'm actually a fan, but man, him being this "mega famous" guy came out out of nowhere for me. I guess I didn't keep up with him well enough, but I just remember him being the kid on 3rd Rock from the Sun, and then a few years pass and BOOM, I see him everywhere. What was the impetus of this?

It's a mystery to me as well. 3rd rock-->nothing for a long time-->all over the place. I think even before Inception he was starting to pop everywhere. I wonder if 500 days of summer caused this snowball effect.

GI Joe was how he broke back into the limelight I think.
It was subtle enough that nobody saw it coming.

Yeah, 500 Days of Summer hit and then bam, he was everywhere. Before that he did a few minor things here or there but for some reason that movie really seemed like the jettison point for his career.
Then Inception happened, and yeah, new Hollywood royalty has arrived.

500 days of Summer, G.I. Joe, and Inception. The Dark Knight Rises will probably do even more to help it.

Interesting. Might have to look into 500 Days of Summer. Because yeah, I'm a fan of the guy. Commercials for 50/50 kinda make me want to see it for him, completely disregarding my distaste for Seth Rogen.

Really different take on love and relationships than most Hollywood movies. More realistic.

Yeah like the others have said, 500 Days of Summer was when he became relevant again, and Inception secured his stardom.
The Dark Knight Rises will secure that even further, and then you have the small indie films that lets him show off his acting chops much more than the big blockbusters, like 50/50. I saw a free screening of 50/50 about a month ago, loved him in it.

Yeah, it is a good movie, especially when you realize it is the director's first ever feature length film. He had only done music videoes up until this point. It's also what gave me faith when this same director was given the new Spiderman movie to direct.

I saw for free, but after seeing it, I wished I paid money to see it. Not only is JGL damn good in it(honestly it was my favorite performance of his from a pure acting stance), but Anna Kendrick was just so damn cute and loveable as well. Seth Rogen isn't 100% bad, either.

Treasure Planet was on, I'd forgotten he was in that.
On that note, you don't need to see Treasure Planet.

Mysterious Skin, Brick, and The Lookout got him a reputation as a critical darling and eventually that transformed into 500 Days of Summer and the rest is history.

One of the things I love about 500 Days of Summer is that it is a deconstruction of the typical Hollywood romance films, and yet JGL's character basically goes about the film as if it was a typical Hollywood romance film.

Yeah, god that party scene (anyone who had seen the movie knows what I'm talking about) just kills me everytime. It made me feel so bad for him and the situation he was in, and how he wanted it to be better.
It was one of the few movies to ever make me kinda dislike Zooey and I love that girl so much.
