Who are some guys who were in developmental for the WWE (OVW, DSW, FCW, HWA, others I don't remember) that could have been something but for whatever reason never got the call or got extremely limited exposure and got released?

Colt Cabana
Also with that Cruiserweight show they wanna do, Peter Orlov/Alex Koslov would've been pretty good.

I will never understand the love for Colt Cabana,
Not sure if he counts, but I nominate Rob Conway, dude could have been something more than a punchline, albeit an hilarious one.

I will never understand the love for Colt Cabana Me neither. Eh, different strokes and all. I gotta nominate Rico Constantino, though. Out of a wrestling class that produced Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, Randy Orton and Eugene/Nick Dinsmore, he was one of OVW's golden boys; that alone tells you how much talent this guy had.

I do recall someone saying that he should've been this generation's DDP. What's the guy up to, anyway? Was he the one that was the cop in Las Vegas? If Finlay's any indication he could always come back, but I dunno if the same gimmick would work.

Hard to believe he's 50 years old.

I will never understand the love for Colt Cabana. Ditto. I nominate Johnny Jeter and Ken Doane. Two of OVW's brightest prospects who, for whatever reason, were brought up as cheerleaders. Then, after their breakup, the latter was pushed and suddenly un-pushed, while the former didn't do too much of anything before being given his walking papers. Just consider this: The two were considered two of the biggest stars in the Spirit Squad. To this day, only one person from that troupe is left: Dolph Ziggler. Imagine where they'd be if they weren't released and were given the opportunity to evolve the way Dolph was. I'll co-sign Rico and Kaval too, for obvious reasons.

Brent Albright/Gunner Scott.
I always felt like the reason they released him is because he was basically a carbon copy of Benoit and they didn't need two of them running around. They should really give him a second chance now if he's still in the business. He had some tremendous matches with Punk in OVW and I seem to remember him being really good in ROH after his WWE release.

I'll agree with Jeter, but Doane/Dykstra was a one trick pony. He wasn't a great character and only a moderately decent wrestler who had a flashy finisher, which was why he got pushed to begin with...well that and his age. They tried to expose him, but he was outshined in so many ways. It also didn't help that he didn't have the best physique. Your age can only take you so far, and luckily in his case, he's still pretty young.

"Kenny" really was phenomenal in OVW, very natural charisma during matches. I watched quite a few OVW matches live on sundays since you could stay afterwards and watch the WWE PPVs on a big screen. He came up with an awful lot of funny stuff to do to work the crowd while waiting on the apron to be tagged.
I'm pretty sure most of it was quite impromptu, so I'm not sure how he could have made it work in the WWE though.
