I like HHH, but there wouldn't have been an Attitude era without Stone Cold so by default he has to be the most important.

Dr. Phil, who worked his way up from the midcard of television until Oprah gave him the rub.

Triple H is the most important wrestler in the history of pro wrestling. A hole in the space-time continuum caused a young and impressionable Frank Gotch to see a vision of Triple H, whose magnificence inspired young Gotch to spend his life laying the foundations for the pseudo-sport from which Triple H would emerge.

There was no hate in the OP's statement, despite it being about HHH. This thread confuses me.

CM Punk at his hottest still couldn't out pop Triple H. Survivor Series 2006.

Just think about this, even during the "reign of terror" Triple H was still one of the most popular superstars in the company and to this day no matter how much the internet bashes him, he continues to be loudly cheered and respected in all the "smark cities". CM Punk at his hottest still couldn't out pop Triple H. Disagreed. Triple H was the right guy in the right place at the right time. If you took him out of the Attitude Era it wouldn't have made a single iota of difference. You can't say that for other folks such as The Rock, Steve Austin, and even Mick Foley to a lesser extent. As for pops, Diesel got a godly pop at the Royal Rumble. Didn't mean a thing when he came back later as Kevin Nash and the crowd crapped all over him. Same for Trips. Guy got one good reaction when he came back for the Royal Rumble in 2001 from injury and after that he was never really that hot as a babyface afterward. Not to mention that Triple H only shows up every once in awhile whereas Punk is trotted every night. You can't really compare the two reactions. Of course the overexposed guy isn't going to get a better reaction than the special attraction. By that logic Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Road Dogg, and Ricardo Rodriguez are all bigger stars than Punk.

He deserves credit, but no way was he the most important of the era. I don't even think it's arguable between Austin and The Rock.
Austin was the most important.

Personally, I think Val Venis was the single most important attitude era star, for many reasons.

Personally, I think Val Venis was the single most important attitude era star, for many reasons. I'm partial to Rikishi, myself. EDIT: The hell am I babbling on about? Obviously, the Mean Street Posse redefined the business during the Attitude Era.
