Yeah the crowd bothered me during his promo. I get that there's always gonna jerks like that, but it was REALLY grating last night. Taker did seem a bit off though. Nervousness perhaps?

The amount or over reacting in this thread is hilarious. It's just a f***ing chant people, get over it. More or less this. I was at the show last night, and was even sitting about 3-4 rows behind the "you suck/retire" guy. There were actually about five or six people sitting in my area loudly telling the dude to shut up, and he deserved it. Kind of a jackass. Having said that, I can tell you from experience that when Taker tripped over his words a couple times in the opening bits of his promo (most notably that "going to hell/hale" thing), a few people laughed, then started chanting what, and it snowballed into a decent number of people - maybe 20-25% of the overall crowd, but nowhere near any sort of majority. Overall, I think we were QUITE the loud and heated crowd last night.

Austin needs to show up and put "WHAT?" to bed for good. Something involving calling the crowd a bunch of braindead braying jackasses, and that this is WWE, not Hee-Haw, so he has no need of jackasses.

Flat out: the promo sucked. I was more entertained by a fan yelling *retire old man!* and *you suck* at him. Undertaker looked kind of upset (maybe he thinks he's above reproach and maybe he is kind of self-aggrandizing), so I also popped for that.
Once Triple H came out, THEN Undertaker started saying something meaningful.. and the crowd became great and was energized by the both of them.
His promo kind of brought me back to Jericho's book when Jericho mention's the boring Undertaker promo about a desert and scorpions and motorcycles breaking down and the 1990 Denver Broncos.

The amount or over reacting in this thread is hilarious. It's just a f***ing chant people, get over it. Normally I would agree with this mode of thinking, but it's been 11 years... f*** that chant. It's overly marky, annoying as hell, NEVER funny when the crowd does it (and thinks it's funny), and last night it really was just flat out disrespectful. It should get put down like the "You f***ed up" chant did. It's the chant that every annoying wrestling fan you've ever met loves to chant and must die immediately.

He was out there talking like a perfectly normal person....it lacked the aura....even with the lighting.
I thought it was funny people were yelling 'you suck' and 'retire' at him. He's past his prime. This needs to be his last match ever. He hasn't wrestled in a year. We hadn't seen him for 11 months. He's a shell of his former self. He shows up for this match only. He can have his 20-0 and that needs to be the end of the Taker.
I think people are starting to feel the way that Cena/Punk thinks of the Rock. You show up to take away the spotlight for your own ego. You don't do anything for the company during the time your gone. What makes you worthy other than name value alone to show up and main event?

I don't see why Undertaker should be exempt from booing or what chants. If it's okay to do it to Hogan, it's okay to do it to Taker. It's not OK to do it to Hogan either, IMO. As far as I'm concerned, unless he's playing a heel, in which case it's the proper thing to do, heckling Hogan is much, much more disrespectful than heckling 'Taker. That's not a knock to 'Taker by any means, it's just that Hogan is that important to WWE.

I wonder if Stone Cold ever feels sorry for starting that "What" crap. Well, he should be, all the time. IIRC its creation also involved Christian. It started from a voicemail he left Christian.

I am gonna echo the sentiments of others, and say I absolutely HATE the what chants more than anything else in wrestling, period. I find it to be so damn disrespectful, annoying, it's just not funny. When Austin would do it to people, fine. Theres no reason for the fans to do it though, all it does is bring down promos
And yeah, it's just a chant, but that f'n chant has been around and will always be around ****ing up promos for years after everyone in this thread is friggin dead. That is the only thing that I hate about Stone Cold, starting those chants.

It's setting up a boring rematch with a boring half-storyline behind it between two guys who have to make the rest of the roster look bad both explicitly and implicitly in order to justify their huge match, and they do a condescendingly piss-poor job of it because they think fans should be blessed by their mere presence. Even worse, they both buy in to the whole "Wrestlemania Moment" thing, and they both have the backstage pull to get a way with risks and spots no one else could. There is an incredibly high chance for actual serious injury in this match. I'd "what" too.
Also, you don't "what" Undertaker? He's a god damned zombie pro-wrestler. He didn't cure cancer. Calm down.

You show up to take away the spotlight for your own ego. He's been gone all year, not taking any time away from anyone. He shows up once to WWE's biggest event - an event they obviously want him on, considering that his streak is a big part of it - and all of a sudden he's stealing the spotlight away? That doesn't make any sense. I can't think of many people who've sacrificed more for the company than Undertaker. 20+ years in WWE, loyal, has put many people over, and has sustained several injuries in doing so. I think he's deserved the right to stay away at this stage in his career. Especially considering that if he didn't - he'd be, in your own words, taking the spotlight for his ego. The same thing that makes guys like Cena, Rock, and Triple H worthy to do the same thing.

Oh, if it wasn't for that selfish, greedy, egomaniacal Undertaker, then Seth Rollins and Kassius Ohno would be getting HUGE Wrestlemania paydays! I'm SURE of it!

I hate the "WHAT" chants for pretty much anyone. It's gotten progressively stupider since its creation, when it was already pretty dumb to begin with.

Wow theres quite some hate for Taker in this thread and other places i post on.I do think its desrespectful to chant that to him,and he was slightly off but he has been away from the ring for almost a year so he must be a bit rusty.I hate to say this but i bet people would be mightly upset if people were chanting what during a CM Punk promo rather then an internet hate figure.

Uh no, but Jack Swagger honestly might? Why on earth did you mention two FCW guys when you know perfectly well that there actual midcarders for whom this is true? "But nobody cares about Jack Swagger!" well and maybe something contributing to that is that he's given no TV time to build feuds, because it's given to HHH and Undertaker, who proceed to waste it with boring promos.

I'm not a 'Taker fan nowadays, but I actually thought the promo was good on his own, and dipped in quality when Trips got involved.
The what chants did make me think "please let him get through this promo people, it's actually interesting," but I guess I'm in the minority there.
