Its funny because when MTV went mostly reality you could still say "At least MTV2 still plays music" well that of course had to end as well. Not sure when but its been at least a few years.

If it's only playing 90's sitcoms then it's already better than MTV

Well for f***'s sakes call it M90's at least then How bout just play music videos instead ? I totally believe MTV giving up on videos has a lot to do with the failing music industry. The fact is that a lot of people are lazy and dont bother to discover music on their own. If MTV played a lot of videos people would discover new bands and buy it like they used to. Maybe not buy the music but at least be aware that theres new stuff out there.

I'd heard somewhere that when TRL was still on and would play clips of videos, they did it because it was actually cheaper than playing the whole video. Damn, that was the business they were in. They could play older ones to like VH1 Classics. Yea, there's youtube, but there's a hundred tv shows that play youtube videos, so why not play music videos too for that matter.

It's amazing how we still see so many big budget music videos, and they are simply reduced to Youtube now.

Well my cable company didnt get MTV2 until 2004 and I was excited when I got it because Headbangers Ball and Subterranean were on and they still played quite a bit of videos but in less than a few years it was all over. The glory years of MTV2 were the earlier years (late 90's-early 2000's) and I didnt even get to see it since my cable company was late in getting the channel. Back then they were playing videos MTV didnt play.

Yea, it' was repetitive, but a cool thing to do for 1 day. And when 2000 hit, they played virtually every video in their library in alphabetical order from A-Z. It took 3 or 4 months it seemd

I have no idea why my cable company was so late in getting it. Its not like I live in a small market. Frigging cable companies. I remember they had an "MTV2 on MTV weekend" and I got to see videos that MTV wouldnt play and that was exciting.

My cable company still doesn't carry MTV2, VH1 Classic, Teen Nick, or any of the other sub-channels for MTV, Nick or VH1. Hell, we didn't get Comedy Central until 2006. And there's not even the option of getting On Demand programming. Yeah, it pretty much sucks...

Nobody's going to wait for MTV to find videos when they can go find them by themselves in 3 seconds flat. It makes no business sense for MTV to air music videos primarily in this day and age. MTVHits plays music 24/7, but I wouldn't look forward to MTV doing it with the birth of the Internet, it makes no sense.

Many of the bands that I like, I only discovered due to MTV playing their videos when I was a kid/teenager. MTV gave exposure to alot of bands that many people wouldn't know about otherwise. Sure, with Youtube the videos are there. But you have to know what you're looking for going in. So it's not nearly as easy to discover a new band you like as when videos were in constant rotation on MTV and subdivided into shows like Alternative Nation and Yo! MTV Raps.
