Inspired by the "Favorite WrestleMania?" thread, I figured I'd make one for WWE's number two PPV. So, what's everyone's favorite SummerSlam?
2002 is the obvious choice, but 1998 is special to me as it's the first WWF PPV I ever got to watch, back as a 12-year-old mark. It had the classic HHH/Rock and Austin/Undertaker matches too. 1992 and 2008 are also great and I've heard this year's is good as well, though I haven't seen it yet.

1998 simply because that Austin Vs Taker promo with highway to hell is etched into my mind so much gawd damn awesomeness.
Oh and the poster with taker and austin bashing eachother with pieces of NY lol.

Ah yeah, the poster and the awesome Highway to Hell promo! How stupid of me to forget. Looking it up again, the poster's a little unsettling now, with the scarred-up WTC in the background. The set was awesome too, with the entryway like the gates of Hell. Man, I wanna watch it again now but the copy I taped of it seems to have gone missing.

Summerslam 1991 had Bret Hart winning his first Intercontinental Championship, the Legion of Doom winnin the tag titles and, hell, even Virgil winning the Million Dollar championship was a big deal. Throw in Sid Justice debuting and the Savage/Elizabeth wedding and its aftermath, and you have a great show.

2002 is off the hook, completely stacked card. Angle/Misterio, Flair/Jericho, Eddie/Edge, Benoit/RVD, HBK/HHH, Rock/Brock. It really doesn't get any better than that.

Am I really the first vote for '96? I thought as recently as 5 years ago, that show was the runaway favorite.
Gotta love '02, '98 and '91 as well though.
EDIT: Just remembered I saw '99 live and what a great feel-good show that was too.

Summerslam 89
The crowd reactions for Warrior vs Rude and Macho/Zeus vs Beefcake/Hogan were amazing.

1998 had a great main event as well as the last time for a long time The IC Championship truly mattered.

While I was in attendance for 95 (my first live wrestling show ever) and thought it was the greatest thing ever at the time, I'm a grown man (dammit), and can see how corny that show was.
I vote 2002, by the way.

Summerslam 2002 was a great Summerslam overall. Very little lackluster matches, mostly great matches.

2002 is one of the greatest PPV's ever, and the start of a string of solid PPV's through WM 19.

There a lot to love about Summerslam 2000, first TLC match, Benoit/Jericho 2 out of 3 falls, Shane O Mac dives off the Titantron BACKWARDS, and the triple threat match with Angle taking the sick Pedigree through the table and coming back to finish the match.

2002 is my favorite Summerslam and probably my second favorite show as a whole, behind Mania X7. As a wrestling card, no doubt, it's the best show.
But 1998 was fantastic in the sense that it just felt like a huge show. It felt like a Wrestlemania. Which is funny because it wasn't until these last couple years that they've really tried to push it as the Mania of the Summer.

While I LOVE 2002, it seems one particularly good year isn't getting any love.
That year is 1997.
Sure it's not the greatest card of all time, but it had a main event people would pay money to see, Austin/Owen's unfortunate botch which actually would help the company, Hunter/Mankind in a cage, and a highly underrated bout between LOD and the Godwinns. I rest my case.

I rest my case. Undertaker vs. Bret Hart was still good, too. Sure, their match at One Night Only a month after was a lot better, but their Summerslam match was still good. As for Owen vs. Austin, that was a really good match despite how it ended.

I'm a huge fan of 2008. Santino IC Title win and an awesome HIAC main event.

Summerslam 89 The crowd reactions for Warrior vs Rude and Macho/Zeus vs Beefcake/Hogan were amazing. I voted for 89 as well. It was a tough call for me, as I was also a big fan of 1988 and 1991, but 1989 won it for me based on the great Warrior/Rude match, the hot crowd for the main event, and an entertaining undercard. I always loved 1988 for the Mega Powers/Mega Bucks match, and '91 for the babyface dominating card, but just something about 1989 (the event, the year, the time period, etc) that gives that show the edge. Wish Schiavone was replaced by Monsoon though. That was the only thing wrong with the show (and I happen to like Tony more than most).
