We need a Camp Cornette induction. Jim Cornette, Owen Hart, Yokozuna, Clarence Mason.

Does WWE even acknowledge that Yoko was Samoan, or are they still keeping kayfabe with the Japanese gimmick?

He was actually never billed as being from Japan. He was always listed as being from the Polynesian islands.
Given some of the guys in I couldn't argue with Yoko going in, but would I personally put him in? Well, he had a good 1993-94 era but he was more or less irrelevant after he finally lost to Taker at Survivor Series 1994 (due to Chuck Norris intervening baby!). I guess a former world champ and tag champ should go in.
That said, Yokozuna wasn't even really the dominant big man of that era. That guy would be Vader. Put them both in the same year for the fat boy wing.
Personally I think the time where Yokozuna and Vader dominated wrestling was awful. Those guys seemed like they would have been monster heel fodder for Hogan in the 1980s, yet now we were supposed to believe they should be champions. Vader actually ended up being Hogan fodder in 1995.

Yoko is an underrated talent. He was one of the best big men for the time, and for a year he was the unbeatable champion. The problem is that his glory days were during one of WWE's biggest downturns, and as pointed out, there are some others who deservedly should go in before him. But should be be on the list of future inductees? Beyond question.

He sucked in the WWF because he wasn't allowed to work as stiff as he normally did. He was amazing in japan and had some of the best matches with guys like Misawa/Bam Bam/Hansen and a bunch of others. It seems that most giants get booked better in japan. Look at Giant Bernard.

I'm all for Yoko going in. As a heel in the WWF in the days of the happy face hero, he did something right to hold the belt for nearly a year.
Btw, on a side note: I remember reading that back in 2000, the WWF was considering bringing him in to align with heel Rikishi...not sure if it was just NEWZ, but if true, it wasnt much longer after this that he died...later that fall if I'm not mistaken?

That had to be NEWZ. By 2000, Yokozuna was about 700 pounds. He wouldn't have passed the physical. It's sad too, because WWE had kept him on the roster until the Spring of 1998. He was at home losing weight. He had lost 100 pounds or so but it just wasn't enough and they made the tough choice to release him hoping that he'd lose more weight while gone. Instead he just piled what he had lost back on and then some.
