Some rumours about the future of Ric Flair from a pseudo-reliable source. Apparently, Ric Flair met with the WWF officials yesterday in Stamford, and was offered a two-year deal worth an estimated $2.5 million. Flair has agreed and will start with the WWF on October 1st. He will be free from the WCW on August 1st. Initial talk has Flair coming in as a babyface, and eventually turning heel and teaming with Ted DiBiase. Flair will become the six-million dollar man (perhaps a little jab at Steve Austin?) and the two million dollar men will be managed by Sherri Martel.

Rumours are strong that King Kong Bundy wants to return to the WWF. This may bode well for Vince, since, as I've mentioned before, there are no "big" men left in the WWF that have not been killed except Tugboat and Earthquake. But Earthquake will be killed at Summer Slam at the end of this month, which would imply that Tugboat would eventually have to do a heel turn to give us a new heel big guy. That may be put off for a while if Bundy comes in.

Today's Toronto Star reports: "Apparently Sting, who lost his WCW crown to Big Van Vader, is on his way to the WWF as soon as his contract is up. So are the Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott), who recently lost their tag-team belts. The Steiners are considered the best tag team in the business. Bret Hart, Ted DiBiase and Flair could be headed the other way."

With the exception of the fact that at that time, it was a very real possibility and that a few months later the Steiners did leave for WWF and Flair did leave for WCW and one of the big reasons Hart dropped his IC title to the Bulldog at Summerslam is because they thought he was on the way out.

Rumours have the Hart Foundation ready to fight Demolition with the same fire - adding a third member. It's been reported that Owen Hart has been approached about joining the Hart Foundation. This doesn't seem to figure since Owen is supposedly on his way into the NWA when he finally gets back from Japan, having pushed his August start date to September then to December. That knowledge and the fact that the September marriages have the three Demos vs. the Road Warriors and the Ultimate Warrior makes me wonder if three Harts figure into the picture. Then again, the three Warriors vs. three Demos angle is supposed to be short-lived, with a Warrior vs. Randy Savage feud set to emerge shortly.

Apologies with the lateness on this week's. I got so caught up with worrying about Tropical Storm Fay that I completely forgot about this.

Meltzer reports that the WWF will not bring in Papa Shango as the mysterious culprit behind Bob Backlund's new behaviour. Shango will return, but with a different character.
-------------------
Obviously the different character was the "Supreme Fighting Machine" Kama but let's imagine that he did come back as Shango and was thrown into an odd angle with Backlund.

August 27, 1998 John Bobbitt supposedly offered to re-marry his ex-wife Lorena on a WWF PPV. If you watch his facial expressions during that segment with Val Venis, he looks like he wants to get his paycheck and leave. Why would he agree to re-marry the Woman(who cut off his dick, no less) on a PPV?

According to the Observer, "there is another Outsider on the booking sheet starting on 09/28 in Columbus, OH, as Outsider #4 (assumed to be [Sean] Waltman) faces Jim Powers and #5 teams with Hall & Nash vs. Flair & Anderson & Benoit. I don't believe Jeff Jarrett is free for another week. Davey Boy Smith's original contract was up this week and I hadn't heard that he had officially signed but he's certainly being pushed in WWF as if he's in their long term plans since they seem to be grooming him for the tag team title [he has re-signed]. Whoever #5 is had to be a big name because he's going to work a singles program with Sting."

How would a NOD member change gimmicks in one week? You're so close. This thing is dated 6/5, while the "Bigger, Blacker" version of the Nation debuted on 6/16. Godfather actually stated recently in a shoot that they were originally considering bringing him back as a repackaged Shango but stuck him in NOD instead.

1 was hall, 2 was nash, 3 was hogan, 4 was dibiase, 5 was waltman, 6 was giant.... so sting never got to work the singles program with sting (at least not at that time, since that would be right after he went into the rafters). Dibiase couldn't wrestle, waltman and jim powers? Giant and Sting wouldn't be a draw.

FYI, the house show mentioned in that blurb got shuffled around. Syxx faced Eddie Guerrero, and The Outsiders took on Flair and Benoit. Jim Powers opened the show beating Juventud Guerrera.

Let's check Vince's thought process: "I've got a Dragon. Hmmm. I've got a Snake. Ummmm. I've got a Skinner. Yep. I've got a Birdman. Sure do. I've got a Bulldog. I've got a whole damn zoo, alright. But I don't have a king of the jungle! Yeah! I need a Lion!" Well, not long after that neuron finished firing, Vince came up with the ideal new gimmick. I guess that Battle Cat was so effective that Vince has decided to create a wrestler with a Lion's mask - not a Tiger Mask ;-) - and has gotten none other than Paul Orndorff to return to the WWF and work the character, called The Lion (oooohs and aaaaaahs from the crowd). I wonder whether this one will even make it to TV.
