I hate JR, as a commentator, as a person, and want nothing to do with anything he does. Maybe he was good once long ago, but he is nothing but uneducated sounding catchphrases and that's it.

Why won't they just give Josh Matthews a shot? They're obviously grooming him to be the next lead commentator, put him as the lead commentator and see what he can do. It would be better than dicking around JR and giving the job to the overall suck that is Michael Cole.

They're not grooming Josh to be the next lead commentator. They're not grooming ANYONE to be the next lead commentator, because they always say "No matter what you do for how long you do it, we're always going to bring back JR whenever we feel like it." If you noticed most of last year, Josh was practically mailing it in. He knows as well as anybody. And Todd Grisham got out when he had a chance. They had a good future color man in Matt Striker, but they cut him for no good reason. They're happily, HAPPILY, spinning the wheels.

Jesus H. Crackers, just have JR be the Wrestlemania guy if they're that against him being on tv every week. Make WM feel even more like a big, special event.

To be perfectly honest...every time I've heard JR in the last 7 to 9 years...he's sounded like he's on autopilot. He used to get very involved in the matches, and now...he's the same as Lawler and Cole...they'll make mention of what's going on in the ring every now and again...but they don't exactly seem to care about what happens to one guy or the other.

Have them tell Matthews that Wrestlemania is his audition. If he does well, then he'll be the permanent lead announcer. I guarantee you if they do that he'll give it all he's got. That way, Cole won't suck the life out of matches like he always does and they won't give JR and fans a false sense of hope of JR becoming the lead announcer. There. Problem solved.

It's really sad when the regular commentary team is so godawful that one of the special perks the top stars ask for is that their matches NOT get called by these losers.

JR is such a dick. All those other announcers work hard all year round then he strolls in and calls the featured matches at Mania and gets all the attention. Wait…this sounds familiar. Seriously though, I hope this is true. Rock-Cena and the Hell in a Cell in particular being called by Cole, King and Booker would just seem off to me. Jesus H. Crackers, just have JR be the Wrestlemania guy if they're that against him being on tv every week. Make WM feel even more like a big, special event. This. JR isn’t 1997-2001 JR anymore but he can still call a big match better than Michael Cole. Cole as the lead announcer even after all these years still isn’t half as effective as JR is in the role. I hated how at Survivor Series he called The Rock’s return to the ring after 7 years in MSG like he would call any other match. JR would have made that sound like the most important thing in the world. Imagine Rock vs. Austin at WMX7 with Michael Cole and 2012 Jerry Lawler calling it rather than JR and Paul Heyman. The match in the ring would have been the same but the overall presentation wouldn’t have been nearly as epic. Instead of “Stone Cold has sold his soul to Satan himself for the WWF Championship!†we’d have gotten “Oh my God King, can you believe that? What a shocking development here tonight.†I feel the same way about JR commentating only at WM as I do wrestlers like Rock and Undertaker wrestling on the show. I don’t care if he’s not around the rest of the year. WM is supposed to be special. Bigger and better than the norm. To me, the show will be better with these guys than it would be without them. As long as that remains the case, I’ll gladly have them back every year.

I agree completely. I don't think I've particularly enjoyed J.R. since 2006 or so. I mean, in fairness it's easy to get complacent when you're someone as talented as J.R. is and still have the worst job security ever. If I had to put up with the BS he does, I wouldn't care either.

In the past several months I have seen people on this board taking the side of Cena against rock, falling in love with Johnny Ace, and now everybody seems to hate JR.
WE HAVE ENTERED A TWILIGHT ZONE PEOPLE!

I really hope that you're not one of those guys that whines about people not liking Miz. You hate JR as a person? Did he pork your mom and not call or something?

As much as I want JR at Wrestlemania I'm also scared that if he calls a match or two then Vince will use it as an excuse to humiliate/fire JR the next night. Please, the barbecue sauce running in my veins can only handle so much.

It's weird since, even if this is a rumor, it's believable because big stars have requested Ross over Cole before.
Has that ever happened in any other company at any other point in history? That one announcer is so poorly-regarded that people request a different announcer for their match?
I know it's guys requesting JR and not specifically saying "Not Cole," but that's sometimes how it comes across. Not that I'm complaining. I wouldn't want Cole doing his bullshit schtick on the one match I have a year, and presumably one of the last I have remaining, if I could control it.

Ross is becoming a featured act at WM. Kinda like Undertaker and like Howard Finkel used to be. Why not?

You know, I would love to have JR and Heyman back. They killed 'Mania X-7. But if I was in one of the big matches, I would settle for Josh and Matt Stryker, or King and Cole...HOWEVER...I would demand that they call the match properly. All of those guys are competent of doing it, so if I were stuck with them, I would want them to focus on the story and match, and no hyping the diva's match later or what was hot on twitter at that moment.

I dont give a damn if Jim Ross only does this one match this year.
Cole sucking sucks on commentary compared to him,and the commentary on Michaels/Taker 2 pales in comparison to Michaels/Taker 1.
I want Ross/Striker calling the whole thing. Ross knows better than to shout down his color guy, and Striker is a great student of the game. When the PBP lets him talk and doesnt pressure him to get his bit off, Striker shines bright. He was bad on PPV in 2010 because Cole and Lawler froze him out. Go watch the shows again. You'll see it.

I'm pretty sure that Cole would stay calm for most of the match. Except when it looks close to being over, of course.
Besides, the likelyhood of Cole going on and on during a match with HHH seems impossible.
