Sorry, Cena seems like a wonderful guy in person, but his character on TV is a total wimp that tries way too hard to get people behind him by saying and doing all the right things. I can't stand the pandering. Just be a real person and admit that you hate being booed and that it sucks. I'm sick of him still reaching for cheers from the people that boo him. Be a freakin' man and stand up for yourself. It makes me dislike him more when he says it doesn't bother him. Dude, you're human, and no human enjoys being disliked. You're acting like a p****. Screw the WWE too for doing the same crap. The whole "rise above hate" campaign is also arrogant. News flash: he's a professional wrestler, he kayfabe beats people up for a living. It's perfectly okay for him to dislike his competition and want to kick their asses and also hate on the people that boo him.
It's not difficult to see why people overwhelmingly cheered for guys like Austin and Rock. They were badasses that didn't go out there all smiles and happy and poop jokes while picking the right time to go "grr intense face". No, they were badass 100% of the time that had that aura of "I don't give a s***" that people like cheering for. People enjoy cheering for salty sons of bitches that kick ass and take names. It's the same reason Wolverine is the most popular X-Man, why Batman is the most popular DC character, why John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, James Bond, etc. are always go-to badasses. Cena does not have that aura, he doesn't even come close. It is extremely difficult trying to like him, let alone cheer for him. He has to be the worst booked and portrayed "top" guy in WWE ever. Instead of giving him a niche, they've instead tried to combine them all into one amalgam character that pleases everyone.
He ends up being so very unlikeable to me. It may just be him, but this combination of goofy dork/intense competitor is quite possibly the worst top character ever.

It's not like Cena's the first. ANd there's been plenty of characters like Kane who enjoy being hated. And there's plenty of people who believe enough in what they're doing they don't care if people hate them. Frankly I think people who enjoy cheering for people who don't give a shit are strange. I'm going to spend my money to cheer for someone who'd rather spit on my than shake my hand.

What's with all the talk about him no selling another leave. He said IF he has to take a vacation. IF. He didn't say "I am" or " I'm going to be" he said "If". Doesn't mean they can't write him off by having Brock completely "break" his arm at Over the Limit during the match with Johnny Ace...but still. He never said he WAS leaving. Exactly. Also, that whole promo was the continuation of Cena's belief that Big Johnny was going to can him and because he defeated Lesnar..

One of the best things about Cena's character is that he doesn't care that people boo him, and that at times he goes out of his way to aggravate the more vocal haters.

He needs to bring back "Five Questions", IMO. Yes. That's when I really started to like Cena.

I've been a John Cena fan since I read an article in PWI about some guy named the Prototype. When I saw him make his debut against Kurt Angle I knew he had "it".

There is no denying he can put on a great match, but I find him too cloying, pandering and plain dull to ever like him as a character.

Cena is slowly starting to grow on me again...and no, there's no antibiotics that can kill it.
I was warming up to him again during the whole Nexus storyline until they wussed out and had him lay his hands on Barrett weekly and always come out on top. Human Cena is a lot better character than Super Cena. Cena's arm is tore up and he's vulnerable enough that Johnny Ace thinks he can beat him in a match. When he has Tensai, his lackey who's name escapes me and Johnny teaming up to finish what Brock started and Cena can't fight back...that makes for much more compelling storyline than Cena cleans house to end Raw V. 1,234,464. That and Johnny L. is right up there with Barrett on guys you'd most want to see get their ass kicked by Cena.

He made a joke out of it though, even calling them cheap pops and he got famous for other reasons - crazy bumps and great promos that got his character and storyline over.

I was really annoyed after Extreme Rules when he was laughing and joking to the camera just before his promo. It summed up why I'm not a fan and, until he changes his character, never will be a fan; everything is just a minor inconvenience and nothing is ever a threat.
