Best f***ing end to a season ever. I lost my shit completely when Aguero hit the winner. Shades of Paul Dickov in the 1999 playoff final.

International/European refs do seem to have it in for Crouch so I can understand favouring Carroll even though I prefer Crouch, I think it was Graham Poll that said he was specifically mentioned in a pre-tournament referees meeting.

Sturridge is apparently out of the squad, but can't say for sure until 1pm.
EDIT: Oxlade-Chamberlain is apparently IN the squad.

Stewart Downing made the squad. Words fail me.

European refs don't have it in for Crouch, he just gets away with obvious fouls domestically. He always leans on opposing defenders when he goes up for a header, when I say lean I mean puts his hands on his opponents shoulders making it impossible for them to jump.
Ridiculous that a guy who is 6'7'' needs to do that to win a header.
Also, I agree with the post above me, Downing is a real head scratcher, according to Wikipedia he made 30+ league appearances for Liverpool this season, scored 0 goals and made 0 assists. How does a winger 'achieve' that then remain an international footballer?
Should have dropped Downing and took Richards as an 8th defender.

Generally happy with the squad, would have taken Adam Johnson over Downing. If anything, I doubt Downing will play at all anyhow, I reckon the Ox is higher up the pecking order.
As for the tournament itself, I'll be happy to get beyond the group stage. That'd be progress for me.

Its good to see Parker in the squad, I hope he's fit enough to make a an impact.
But Downing AND Glen Johnson. Both men who've been flops at Liverpool and there are far more impactful players available such as Adam Johnson or Micah Richards. Defoes something of a gamble as well, given he's out of favour at Tottenham, but I am a fan of the guy. I still think he's our best poacher, and he deserves more from Redknapp so I'm happy to see him in the squad. But taking Downing and G. Johnson is just ridiculous to me.

I'm not a big Crouch fan, he would have made my squad, but only due to a severe lack of talent up front. But even I think that even domestically he is unfairly punished. European ref's are overly sensitive on pretty much everything, but even in England the situation where Crouch doesn't even touch the defender, wins the header and is still penalised happens waaaaay too often.

PS, this would've been my squad:
GK: Joe Hart, Ben Foster, Scott Carson DF: Micah Richards, Glen Johnson, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Leighton Baines, Ashley Cole MF: Theo Walcott, Ashley Young, Adam Johnson, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Scott Parker ST: Peter Crouch, Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe.
STANDBY: Fraser Forster, Joleon Lescott, Joe Cole, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Grant Holt.
Starting line-up (4-4-2): Joe Hart, Micah Richards, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Leighton Baines, Theo Walcott, Scott Parker, Frank Lampard, Ashley Young, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe (Wayne Rooney ahead of Defoe after the ban ends).
We wouldn't win anything with that team but we could at least perform admirably.

I do understand not taking Rio, personally I think his time as an international player has passed. But he's leaving out Micah Richards? REALLY?? And seriously, Stewart Downing?

It was inevitable I'm afraid. His big money signings have been disasterous. They threw away any chance to win the FA Cup. His statements about it being a good season for Liverpool were baffling. Benitez is the obvious choice to replace him

And that England squad is an absolute joke. Carrick was one of the best players of a United team who finished level on points with the champions yet Scott Parker and Jordan f***ing Henderson get a look-in ahead of him?!
and Stewart Downing over Aaron Lennon?!?! are they taking the piss?
Fair enough if he didn't feel Ferdinand worthy but to include Terry instead is just insulting considering the whole race row and the comparative form of them both this season.
I think part of the reason Spain is so successful is because most of them play for Real or Barcelona and so already work well as a team. The England manager should do the same with City and United players in the England set-up but no England manager wants to take risks so they'll end up with the forced pairing of Gerrard and Lampard yet again because they're afraid of having a Plan B.
I'm so glad I'm not English.

Thing is, all these players people are questioning their exclusion... they've have their chance at International level too... and pretty much failed. Downing's turned in a couple of decent performances for England in the past... Carrick, nothing, really... his tracking back isn't great too and you NEED ball-winners, especially when we're going up against teams that will retain the ball much better than us.
I think a few more younger players *would* have made the cut, but what with injuries and the Olympics (which will be arguably as big a stage for some of our younger players to shine) I think Hodgson has set out a team that will work hard, has a somewhat proven track record (no English team has won owt for years, so you can't pin that on 'em) and might just grind the results out through hard-work more than anything else.
We shall see. My expectations are low, I just want to see us be able to hold our heads high, unlike the WC in South Africa.

England could have done worse than take Forster and Hooper from Celtic. Playing in the SPL tends to go against players being picked for England but those two are very capable players who have played in Europe and done well. Neither would be first pick but both are in better form than the back up Roy has chosen.
And I'm glad Dalglish got punted. He isn't a good manager and Liverpool were never going to be anything other than mediocre with him there. Maybe now they can become a force again. Just hope they've got money because whoever comes in is going to want lots of it to sort them out.

Carrick was one of the best players of a United team who finished level on points with the champions yet Scott ParkerI do not understand anything there. One of the best midfielders in the Premier League versus Michael Carrick. There are a lot of things to complain about this England squad but Parker over Carrick is not one of them.
