Carrick was one of the best players of a United team who finished level on points with the champions yet Scott ParkerI do not understand anything there. One of the best midfielders in the Premier League versus Michael Carrick. There are a lot of things to complain about this England squad but Parker over Carrick is not one of them. Parker's a fine midfielder but also ridiculously overrated. He has most certainly improved Tottenham and I would take him to the Euros but Carrick would come before him without a doubt. Carrick is a better CM than him.

Yeah I agree, those are Man United tinted glasses in my opinion, though I would definitely also agree that Carrick is better than Henderson. The only justification I can think for that is Henderson can play on the right of midfield as well so is a better 'back up'. I personally think there should have been a couple more younger players taken to give them experience playing in a major international tournament in preparation for the World Cup. I'd have still definitely taken Parker, Cole, Gerrard and Terry of the old guard though as I feel the younger players would benefit from their experience.

It's really a shame how underrated Carrick is. I'd put him just behind Rooney and maybe Valencia as our player of the season. To not bring him to the Euros is disgraceful and deserves more mainstream attention than Ferdinand is getting.

Also, I know the goalkeeping issue is no big deal really but is Ben Foster injured? If not then I'm really surprised he hasn't gone, I thought the reason he was left out of West Brom's last game against Arsenal was because Roy didn't want to risk him for the Euros.
Speaking of which did anyone see Fulop's howlers? Wow!
And I'm absolutely gutted Dalglish has gone, I was looking forward to getting £15m for Simpson and £20m for Guthrie ;D

Ben Foster doesn't want to play for England. That's why he ain't there.

Well that explains that then still odd that he would leave him out for the last game of the season.

I can't complain too much about the squad. Not surprised Ferdinand isn't there or Richards and I personally wanted Crouch to be in because he's a threat but it's variations on what most people would have picked.
I agree on the madness of Downing getting picked ahead of the likes of Aaron Lennon, Adam Johnson or even Joe Cole. The guy does nothing. As a Spurs fan I think Parker and Carrick are pretty much the same so you have to pick one or the other. You'd think Gary Neville would have been pushing for Carrick to be included though.

Speaking of which did anyone see Fulop's howlers? Wow! On behalf of all fellow Arsenal fans I'd like to thank Fulop for his display against us. He is now an Arsenal legend.

He has most certainly improved Tottenham and I would take him to the Euros but Carrick would come before him without a doubt. Carrick is a better CM than him. I respectfully disagree there. When he played for us (NUFC) he was absolutely sublime. Some Newcastle fans won't admit how good he was because for some reason a lot of them are still hurt he left. And he has only gotten better at Spurs. He'd be the first name in my midfield at the Euro's. Carrick, whilst good, just simply isn't great in my opinion. Now had you said Carrick should've gone ahead of Gareth Barry I would have agreed, but that may have more to do with Barry being absolutely awful than anything else.

But if I was England manager I'd get him to change his mind. My man management skills are second to none... according to my Football Manager save anyway . Yeah, I was getting really annoyed and saying he was doing it deliberately being an ex-Sunderland player just to get at us, but we lost to Everton anyway and I had to stop whining haha. As was I, the £8m we would have got for Leon Best would've been nice too .

I'd have been genuinely pissed off if we'd have won and those mistakes cost us a CL place at the final hurdle, but since we decided not to bother turning up against Everton I can enjoy the howlers as much as everyone else. Merson absolutely slated him on Soccer Saturday and I thought he was being harsh....then I saw for myself. I'll never understand why players rule themselves out for selection, unless they're getting on a bit and are looking to pro-long their club careers which is oviously how they earn a living. And yes I too forgot about Gareth Barry, Carrick should have gone ahead of him. I do wish Wilshere was fit though.

Let me just say that I love Roy Hodgson...I'm glad Parker has gone and also Oxlade-Chamberlain. BUT seriously this squad is just all over the place and has Stuart Pearce written all over it...
1) Micah Richards should definitely have been included. 2) How many more tournaments do we need to see that Lampard AND Gerrard does not work?! Take one or the other, both not both. 3) I am amazed, astonished even, that John Terry would be taken with all the baggage which comes with him- and when he has a court case pending and his actions at the last World Cup. He is such a disruptive influence that he's not worth the bother when his form is great, let alone when it isn't. 4) DOWNING! Good lord the man has played all season and has 0 goals and 0 assists. How on earth can you take such an average player (who wouldn't be anywhere near the Premier League if he was right footed!) be taken over Adam Johnson, or Lennon, or Joe Cole...it beggars belief.
I guess the main point is that we had the opportunity to for once enter a major tournament with a young squad and just a few key older players, with basically no expectations, and just see how far they could go. Instead we have the dregs of previous campaigns and painfully average players mixed up with one or two great prospects. It's a complete mess.

I'd have taken Carrick ahead of Barry and Lampard, on reflection.

Now it turns out Carrick wasn't picked because he told the FA he didn't want to be a bit-part player.
