I'm completely baffled by the Downing selection too, J.Cole, Lennon and Johnson are ALL far superior players in his position yet he is the one who gets the nod?! Another failed England campaign awaits and I'll be surprised if we even make it out of the group stage. :/

Local journo is reporting that Steve Kean has been sacked as manager of Blackburn Rovers. Unofficial though as of this moment.

No surprise, really, but Michael Owen will not return to Manchester United.

Really, the good news for England is that they are in the 2nd weakest group. All they have to do is be better than either Sweden or Ukraine. Could you imagine if they got drawn into the group with Portugal, Germany, and The Netherlands and brought that team... total bloodbath.

It was the Rovers writer for the Lancashire Telegraph whose account was being touted as the one with all the news. Tweeted that he had heard that Kean had been sacked. Several national journo's said that he was saying that Kean had been sacked. However, since then he has deleted the tweeet saying Kean had been sacked and is currently saying he won't tweet anymore news until it is confirmed but his gut feeling is that Kean will stay as manager.

I'll predict Chelsea, West Ham, and Hearts to win

I'll go Chelsea, Blackpool, Hearts.
I don't blame Holt, there's nothing wrong with wanting to test yourself at a higher level. At 31 I wouldn't blame him if it was just for financial reasons, no offence to Norwich fans but it's the same at every club outside of a select few. All you can do is hope for a Jose Enrique faux pas!

True. Although a lot of Rovers fans seem to think anyone would be better than Kean so... his record speaks for itself, mcleash fired for losing one game less and staying up, dalgliesh fired despite winning the league cup and getting to the final of the f.a. cup (fair enough they finished below everton which didnt go down well in the red half of mersey side.) he's the worst manager rovers have had just for the results while he's been in charge. (he's taken a stable squad from mid table to relegation in 18 months, and destablised the squad, claiming players werent fit until they were sold to other clubs where they made amazing recoverys.) i could go into full rant mode like a lot of rovers fans are (rightfully so, villa fans were protesting against their manager and they were praised for it while rovers fans were made out to be villains for doing so.) and point to every lie, questionable tactic, dodgy signing etc, but the results stand for themselves he isnt a good manager, a good coach? probably a passable one... but he isnt a good manager. it's sad but the 3 highlights of blackburn rovers season were beating arsenal & man utd and having a chicken on the pitch during the final home game against wigan.

My picks for today
Bayern Munich - Chelsea have too many players suspended and Bayern are effectively playing at home. And yes I am a Spurs fan.
Blackpool - West Ham showed plenty of signs of bottling under pressure by missing out on automatic promotion when they should have gone up, think they'll bottle it today as well.
Hearts - Stab in the dark with that one.

Surely Sky Sports are going to get sued by WWE for their DAY OF DESTINY advertising. Surely it's gimiick infringement!
Anyway whether Chelsea win or lose it's win win for me tonight. Chelsea lose well they lose and no Champions League for them. Chelsea win and no Champions League for Tottenham.
If I had the choice? Chelsea to lose please. I know Spurs are our main rivals but I d rather they were in the Champions League than Chelsea next year and I can't have Chelsea winning the Champions League. Just no. Plus I enjoy watching Spurs more than Chelsea.
My prediction? Bayern. Just.
As for the other games I really hope Blackpool do it today but I see West Ham being too strong. Hope I'm wrong on that one.
And Hearts to beat Hibs I think. Not a massive expert on Scottish football but Hearts finished much higher than Hibs in the league so I'll go with them.

Bayern, Blackpool and Hearts are my picks. West Ham should be favourites as they've already thrashed Blackpool twice but like others have said I think they'll bottle it especially if Big Sam goes negative, whatever happens they have to start with Vaz Te or they're unlikely to win.
Good to hear that Bertrand should start for Chelsea today, he was great for us. It was a bit more annoying to hear that Brendan Rogers continues to learn from his mistakes, we had as his manager at the wrong stage of his career.

My picks:
- West Ham - Bayern Munich - Hibernian
My hope is the exact opposite:
- Blackpool (hate Allardyce) - Chelsea (prefer Chelsea to both Bayern and Tottenham) - Hearts (always preferred Hearts to Hibs).
