The lesser spoken of reason that still has merit, Marty never graduated from his Rocker persona so he instantly came off as the lesser of the two. Shawn evolved the Rocker gimmick into HBK. Marty clung to the Rocker look with a vice grip and came off as if he couldn't let go of the tag team. When he faced Shawn at the Royal Rumble 93 that was the time for Marty to evolve himself. Instead he became twice the Rocker to make up for Shawn's departure. The goose was cooked from that point. Well, I'd say it was more turning up drunk that day and f***ing everybody backstage off myself. Don't forget its a work! If the office wanted to push that Rocker to the moon, I at ten years old would be buying whatever it was they were trying to sell me, as would everybody else. But I do agree, Marty should have taken the initiative to have a character adjustment. It wasn't so bad back in 1993 when he came back, but in later years it became a bit lame, and I'd go as far as to say it was sad seeing him on Raw in 2005 doing the same stuff.

Marty was always my favourite out of the Rockers.
When was he last in WWE?

What were Marty's promo skills like? I don't recall hearing him speak but he probably wasn't nearly as good on the stick as Shawn.

Marty getting the push instead of Shawn may be one of the most GIGANTIC what-ifs in WWE history, just because of the effect it may have had on The Backstage Power of The Kliq (and more importantly, the rise of HHH, assuming Marty's push wouldn't cause a Butterfly Effect that keeps HHH in WCW).

I think had he not had so many problems he would be around,he is a really good wrestler,I still will never forget one time making a joke to someone that if they kept it up and marty jannetty is gonna wrestle and sure enough about a day or so later he was on RAW,I was like I was just joking I didn't think he would actually show up.

What were Marty's promo skills like? I don't recall hearing him speak but he probably wasn't nearly as good on the stick as Shawn. See, I disagree. Back in Midnight Rockers timeframe, Shawn wasn't all that good on the mic as everyone likes to think. Marty was the mouthpiece for long while and Shawn would say something every now and then. Of course over time, Shawn did get better and surpass Marty.

Yeah...no. Jannetty's problems were alot worse. As in 'Can't leave the state due to parole' worse. That was during his last spot in the WWE though, not during his wwf run. No the first time too. He got arrested and put under house arrest. That's why he disappeared for like 9 months before he started his fued with HBK.

At least Leif Cassidy found marginal success as Al Snow and was even a trainer on Tough Enough.

Yeah, but it worked for what they were trying to convey, didn't it? Funny that Marty went from essentially leading the Rockers to co-oping them to getting kicked through a window in a pretty short time frame. He screwed himself A LOT, but Shawn learned, grew and moved at precisely the right time. Jannety wasn't super dynamic on the mic, but he was easy to like. If he wasn't a trainwreck, a proper Rocker feud could've made both of them.

I think WWF picked Shawn to be the star from the time they split. He was given the HBK gimmick while Marty was just Marty.

Marty could have been a big star- IF he was reliable and was given a new gimmick.
He looked like a pathetic ex girlfriend stalking Shawn to try and reform the rockers- and then getting Leif Cassidy to make Shawn jealous.
Maybe he should have gone to WCW in 1992?
