Well this Christmas I got a Blu-Ray player, however this means I need to buy some Blu-Rays at some point. This is mainly from a video and audio point of view, not bothered by extras that much. I just want suggestions for films that really benefit from being on Blu-Ray.
(I was given the Alien Quadrilogy and Casino Royale)
So what films are worth owning on Blu-Ray?

Thunderball if you're into James Bond films.
Thunderball kicks butt on Blu-Ray. That underwater fight scene is best with the highest quality picture.

Anything by Pixar is about as good as you can get.
If you like the grainy "real film" look, Ghostbusters is a good one. It seems like a lot of people don't think anything that wasn't digitally shot is useless on Blu-ray, neglecting that film can actually hold far more information than Blu-ray can. I personally like Blu-ray because it's the best home format presentation of real film so far.
For something more outside-the-box, I'll go ahead and recommend Kino's restored version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis from 1927.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is the best one I own. Amazing sound.
I was really let down with The Watchmen. Didn't look or sound all that special.
Zombieland looks amazing and Emma Stone looks hot as hell in high def.
I haven't watched The Dark Knight yet, but those are my only Blu Rays so far. Odd assortment, I know.

Dark Knight looks great, especially when it switches to the IMAX scenes.
Except for Return of the Jedi, I thought the 5 other Star Wars movies looked great on the new set.
If you're into the Criterion Collection, their blu-ray work is probably the best out there, outside of Pixar. It's amazing what they do with picture that's decades old.

Not a film but if you're a fan, then pick up Planet Earth on Blu. It looks absolutely stunning.

GI Joe is a great showcase. But Hellboy 2 is pretty much the best reason to go Blu.

If you're a horror fan, The Evil Dead is a revelation on Blu-Ray. Anchor Bay's release of Hellraiser is pretty awesome, out-of-print, still cheap, and much better than the Image release from last year.

Fast Five looks amazing in HD. I'm starting to think about buying the other four Fast and Furious movies on Blu-Ray just to see how they look and sound.

Not a film but if you're a fan, then pick up Planet Earth on Blu. It looks absolutely stunning. This. It's one of those 'showcase' things where you can just pop it in and wow your friends who've never seen it before. If you're an anime fan, FLCL. The entire series (6 episodes) can be had for about $20, and it is absolutely gorgeous.

I second Scott Pilgrim and Zombieland.
Also, the biggest "improvement" I think goes to the original Terminator. It looks and sounds incredible. I've seen it a million times, and it was still almost like watching something new.

-Blade Runner: The Final Cut(although you should buy the multiple-cut set. It's usually pretty cheap these days).
-Taxi Driver looks amazing and is never sold for above $15.
-2001: A Space Odyssey holds up incredibly well. For that matter, all of Kubrick's films, with the exception of Spartacus(which I hope Criterion gets their hands on eventually) look great.
-I've watched the hell out of The Godfather Trilogy on TV and DVD, and it was like watching them for the first time again when I watched them on Blu-Ray
A lot of catalog releases look really amazing. I'd say go to Blu-Ray.com and/or DVDbeaver and start looking up some of your favorite movies, and determine which ones are really worth it to you to get on this format. B-R will give some pretty thorough reviews(plus pricing info), and DVDB will do side-by-side DVD vs. Blu-Ray comparisons.
And also, if you're in a financial and living-space situation that will allow this, I'd recommend getting a 5.1/7.1 surround sound system if you don't already have one. I got one back in April, and it's really difficult for me to go back and listen to films over just a TV's speakers.

I'll third Scott Pilgrim. Looks and sounds incredible.
The first and third Transformers movies. If you enjoy them, then you NEED them on Blu-Ray.
The 2009 Star Trek movie. Holy crap, awesome.

I would have to add BBC's Wonders of the Solar System/Universe as well. Oh, and Frozen Planet, hopefully the US release will come with the episode the American networks didn't want.

Keep in mind, though, that Criterion Collection releases are region A locked, and I noticed that your location is England, meaning that unless you have a region-free player(such as a PS3), you won't be able to play them.
