Cliff notes: Dad sees daughter slandering them on facebook, reads the post to the world.
Language warning. Bullets around 7:20
This is extreme parenting.

I'm so glad someone posted this here. My wife left it up on our laptop and I watched it, and read the comments on the page it was on for the hell of it. My thoughts are as follows...
I'm all for parents actually punishing their spoiled little brats, but this is a little over the top. So, this guys daughter posts online and bashes her parents...and his response is to create a video where he reads her comments before unloading a gun into her laptop to punish her. Wow. They're both a couple of winners. Tweedledee and Tweedledum. The best part was all of the people who were singing his praises about his parenting skills and sticking it to his little brat of a child.
Here's a better idea. How about taking that laptop and, I don't know, donating it to a charitable cause. The computer goes to someone who needs it, dad gets a tax deduction and daughter still loses her computer. Much better than daddy showing how much of a better man he is by blowing away one of her belongings online.
So, how long before she tries to show this video to the authorities and claim she fears for her life? I don't think dad thought this one through...and I can't see how they couldn't take her claim into consideration after seeing Mr. Trigger Happy there. I think some family counseling is in order, but what do I know.

When I was 15 I didn't have a laptop, high speed internet or facebook. I did chores like cleaning the barn and drive the tractor for hours. I sure as hell shouldn't complain because my dad had it so hard that he never grew taller than 5' 6" and got dentures at 40 because he didn't go to the dentist.
It's a shame that some young teenagers are like that. One of my co-workers bought his son from out of town to work and got him to sweep the shop for money. Of course, he would complain for doing 2 hours of work. This one time he complained to his mom that he washed dishes. If that boy doesn't man up quick then he's going to live with his mom forever.

Let's see...daughter is out of line, so she needs punished. Take away the laptop. Sure, seems reasonable. Computers are privileges, not guaranteed (doubly so if mom and pop paid for it). When she learns to be respectful, she can have said privileges restored.
Take the computer destroy it unnecessarily ridiculous fashion, and then attempt to publicly humiliate daughter. This no longer shows an attempt to teach a lesson, but rather an attempt at self-serving vengeance. Cute. Nice work, dad.
I hope this was staged. If not, it's a sad commentary on what the view of "family values" has become in the United States. Laughably overkill at best, and dangerous and disheartening at worst.

Without knowing more about the situation, I can't really judge. When you publicly air all your dirty laundry like she did, I don't feel bad when someone responds in kind. But I don't know how they act beyond that video, so I can't say if that's an overreaction to an ungrateful, self-centered brat or overbearing parents who expect their daughter to do everything while they do nothing.

I think the video speaks for itself. He shot a computer and made a youtube video about it. If that's not overreacting, I don't know what is. It was an extreme reaction, but if the daughter is such a self-centered brat that she needs an extreme message to actually get through to her, then it's not really an overreaction. Sometimes, you have to do something big to get the message across.

We know this incident, but like I said, we don't know how they act beyond this incident. All we know is what this guy read in the note, we don't know how they act aside from that. we don't have much context to this, just this one video. Or maybe I just don't see shooting the laptop as this big horrifying thing that others seem to. It's not like he killed her pet, he got rid of a machine in a way that was absolutely certain to get the message to a girl who's at an age that talking is as useful as a squirt gun in a house fire.

We got stories of murder being committed due to Facebook, this is barely a pebble in an ocean in the scale of "overreaction" compared to stuff like that.

I'm going to quote one of my professor's responses to it because I couldn't agree with what he said more. "I wonder where she learned to be profane and antagonistic? I wonder where she learned the only good reaction is an over-reaction? He says he "blew" his day working on her laptop, and he's surprised she thinks helping him is wasting her time? I wonder why she feels like she has to blow off steam somewhere were cowboy bob doesn't know about it, instead of talking it over with him in person? Where, oh where, did she learn to be passive/aggressive? Brute force parenting only works so long. If his kid is truly out of control (and frankly, I remember doing the same kind of stuff when I was her age), it's probably because his "management by crisis" parenting style let her get that way...seriously, who else is he supposed to assign responsibility to? I have a rule of thumb for training puppies (which works for kids too): The first thing you have to do is to be smarter than the puppy. Blowing up other people's property to make a point is at about at a 5 year old level, so intellectually he's about 8 years behind..." The guy got mad at his daughter for venting her feelings to her friends and he took a gun and shot a f***ing computer. And filmed it. How about, you know, talking to your kids? I guess he completely understands the value of money since he just spent 130$ on software and then put a bullet through the computer. Well said.

So wait he's shooting this girl's laptop for complaining about them on Facebook, but he does the same exact thing and complains on Facebook and it's okay. You wonder why she's like this XD

The daughter talks s*** on the internet, so as punishment, the dad talks s*** about the daughter on the internet?
Ok.

The daughter talks s*** on the internet, so as punishment, the dad talks s*** about the daughter on the internet? Ok. I thought this too. It was an immature way of handling things from the PARENT'S perspective. The girl wanted attention and vented to everyone in earshot on a certain social network. The father did the exact same thing on a different social network. I don't see anything constructive resulting from this. An attention seeking response to an attention seeker.
