The aiming system was a bit weird. When I played it, Niko would aim at bad guys through walls.

I wonder if anyone else had the same issue as I did.
When I played the PS2 GTA games, I had fun doing everything, because of one simple factor, I didn't know how to drive.
Between the release of San Andreas and 4, I got my license and learned how to drive. Now when I play a game like GTA, I am so cautious of my driving, trying not to crash and hurt anyone. That is my main problem now with those games, (although I've started to get over it, playing Saints Row The Third, a game I whole hearted recommend)
Anyone else have that problem? Just curious.

Speaking of Saints Row, I've only played the first one and it was great. I thought it was comparable if not better than San Andreas when it came out. How does the 2nd game compare to GTA IV? I know the 3rd game just looks fantastic, but I've been thinking about shelling out $20 to download the 2nd. They went completely into left-field with the subsequent Saints Row games. It's all about going crazy and doing whatever you want. SR2 forces you to create mayhem to unlock missions, and everything is done with humor. SR3 is awesome, albeit short and most of the missions are variations of side activities. But the humor and set pieces are second to none. Yea, I knew that SR3 went completely off the deep end and it looks fantastic because of it, I'm just not about to drop $60 on any new PS3 games. But if SR2 is an improvement over the first one (I don't care if it's wacky or serious, I just want a fun open world experience) I'll probably shell out $20 for the PSN download. I've wasted hours just throwing him out of helicopters and jumping out of cars. The hilarious physics of his movements made it fun to just kill him a bunvh. I agree, that's basically all I did when I played the original GTA IV. I rarely did missions, I would just sit around with my friends and come up with cool ways to die. My favorite is jumping out of the helicopter at the right angle, and getting sent flying by the blade. The aiming system was a bit weird. When I played it, Niko would aim at bad guys through walls. If you hold the L trigger all the way, he auto-aims at nearby targets and you can change who you're aiming at by tapping left or right on the right control stick. If you press the L trigger slightly, you can aim wherever you want. Aiming at enemies through walls is a necessity I think because of the cover system, it would be broken if it stopped aiming every time they went behind cover. Plus, it's handy during indoor missions because it helps you know if enemies are around the corner. But that does remind me that I meant to bitch about the cover system. Not enemy cover, but when you try to use it. If you tap R1 near a wall or anything, you'll automatically use it for cover...cool! But sometimes you accidentally go into cover during a fire fight and getting out of cover is a pain the f'n ass. LA Noire also had this problem and it has resulted in a few frustrating deaths in both games. That is my main problem now with those games, (although I've started to get over it, playing Saints Row The Third, a game I whole hearted recommend) Anyone else have that problem? Just curious. I have noticed that I try to drive more carefully and realistically in the games now that I'm old enough to drive, though that may be because in GTA IV you can kill yourself by launching through the window if you wreck, and it's easier to get the cops on your tail for hitting pedestrians so it's in your best interest to drive better. I wouldn't call it a problem. I tend to get where I'm going faster that way.

I haven't had much trouble with cops. They do seem to get alerted way too easy if you do violent stuff, but I hardly ever have them come after me for car jacking someone. And getting away from them seems easier than it was in the other games since you can just look at the map and see where to go. Though I do abuse the wanted level cheat because running from them isn't any fun. I also dislike how you never get tanks and s*** coming after you, I used to love getting 6 stars in the PS2 games and seeing how long I could survive. Hell, I got 5 or 6 stars the other day and didn't even have helicopters trying to gun me down. I just stood on a small building and warded off the cops with the explosive shotgun. That's exactly what I liked doing, especially in San Andreas, having to change vehicles under heavy fire, trying to steal a tank, jumping over FBI cars, getting chased up that big mountain with FBI vans trying to knock you off etc was the best part so I’m gutted that they ruined my favourite part of the series To me the missions were only there to unlock areas, weapons and vehicles that made the chase/rampage aspect more fun.

Oh yea, here's something else. After I beat TBoGT's main story, I decided I would do all the base jumping and drug wars missions too. I did all the base jumps, and then did 25 drug wars. When I did the 25th (and what I thought was final) drug wars mission, it suddenly told me I had completed 25/50. WTF? I really don't want to do 25 more of those because they were so damn repetitive. They recycle the same cut scenes and dialogue for all of them, and you even end up doing the EXACT SAME GOD DAMN THING every time. Literally, they use the same few locations and the same generic enemies and situations. You're either going to 1 of 3 or 4 locations to kill all the dealers and take their stash, or you're going to 1 of 3 or 4 locations to steal a drugs vehicle and bring it back to your place, stopping on the way back to kill the people chasing you. It's such a let down. Are the last 25 missions really just going to keep doing the same thing or do they change it up?

Absolutely loved playing GTA IV and it's the first GTA I ever played all the way through, but that's probably because I wasn't as patient with Vice City and San Andreas.
That being said, I loved Saints Row the Third even more than GTA IV. That game is just an unholy amount of fun. It inspired me to buy the 1st and 2nd games as a pack on Amazon for 20 bucks. Haven't started playing them yet though despite having them for a couple of months.
Either way I'm addicted to both franchises.

Too many damn chase missions. My two cents. Man, I loved the chases! I was playing the vanilla game again today, it was one of the early chases where you have to find a dude using a cop computer, then chase him when he tries to escape. I chased the dude for ages in my little russian mob car, dodging logs falling off trucks & all this other shit, only to be able to knock him into the bay, then when he tried to get back onto land, shoot him with a pistol & walk off feeling badass. Usually, I'd just used an RPG to kill him before he could run, way more epic to drag it out a bit.

Hell, I don't have my license - not in any hurry to get it - but I try to be careful with driving about unless I'm hurrying somewhere. Mostly since I really prefer to avoid shoot-outs with the police if I can. Granted, usually I just take taxis everywhere.

I liked it, but it was too serious, there was too many chase missions and the controls were awkward.
That actually makes me seem like I hated it, but I really didn't D:

Too set in reality. We have enough of those games already! While San Andreas had some serious stuff going on, it still had a lot of fun stuff too. Hell, as the games progress, they try harder and harder to make the story gritty...and honestly..the more they do, the less I like the protagonist I'm playing as.
From best to worst;
Tommy/Claude: This is a tie because they function on almost the same level. While Tommy is definitely more sadistic, Claude just follows orders with a carefree attitude. As long as someone is paying him...he's like..."whatever". I love that he had absolutely no problem killing Kenji...his former employer who treated him pretty good.
CJ: He was cool, but this is where they started f***ing with the formula too much. I don't need a protagonist to feel sorry for, especially when he functions as a murdering criminal. At his core, CJ really wasn't a bad person, but going around doing whatever kind of ruined it for me.
Niko: Pretty bland and boring. Roman brought out his personality pretty well, but like CJ, he seemed like a good person as his core. The reason he's last is that the story and missions were far more uninteresting than the former games.

I definitely like it, but the game doesn't seem to reward you that much for screwing around. Plus, Niko is so sympathetic throughout, trying to be a good guy, but getting sucked into violence when he feels it's his only option. With Saints Row, you were there to cause trouble because it was fun and it was all a part of controlling the city. In GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, I felt like missions were something to do when everything else got boring, that kept me playing and playing and playing. GTA IV seems like you go from mission to mission to mission. I really doubt GTA 5 will fix this, but I'll be pre-ordering it as soon as I can just because I love the GTA series. Speaking of Saints Row, I've only played the first one and it was great. I thought it was comparable if not better than San Andreas when it came out. How does the 2nd game compare to GTA IV? It has more fun missions, it's longer, and the side missions are more varied and fun (they're severely lacking in part 3).

I started playing Saints Row 2 once, but it froze up on me a few missions in and since I wasn't feeling too into it anyway I haven't played it since.

Started on the expansions recently, just finished TLAD and started TBoGT. Even though I've just started TBoGT I find it a lot more entertaining with a storyline that feels more GTA than the biker gang thing did. Good fun though. I'm a huge fan of GTA IV but I still prefer San Andreas because of the cities and a feeling of having more freedom.
I like the fact there is diversity in what you can do although the missions can get repetitive. The chases I don't mind too much, it's the drive here and shoot these guys missions that come over and over again that get frustrating.

Though that's probably because he was the most realistic character in the series. I don't imagine that Italian mob members or Russian gangsters are really all that common, but I've met tons of guys like CJ.

TBoGT is better than GTA IV IMO. Seemed to be a lot more fun to play. I was bored by TLAD, although I did riding that bike.

Yes, so much. I started my lessons, then played it a while later & found I drove better in it actually, I mean, I've been playing driving games since I was a kid, but you don't really get certain things unless you've driven, like realising your road presence and stopping distance. I think that's why I enjoy chases more as well, as I used to just slam into walls sideways on corners & end up wrecking my car in the process, now I can effectively keep up & kick ass.

This may sound stupid, but the older I get, the less fun I have blowing innocent people away in video games.
I played GTA IV and didn't intentionally kill anyone outside of the missions.

Saints Row: The Third sucked. Compared to 2, or even 1, there just wasn't as much content. The world felt dead.
They went "lol goofy lol" and that gets old pretty quick. The city itself was bland as hell and so goddam unmemorable compared to Stillwater. f***, they killed Johnny Gat in the first 5 minutes of the f***ing game!
I 100% completed Saints Row 3 in 13 hours. It took me over 60+ to do that in Saints Row 1 and 2 each. They cheaped out so badly on The Third. It just felt like a hollow shallow wannabe experience compared to the other two.

I don't kill many innocents in GTA IV either but I don't think it's because of my age or maturity, it's just because once you've gotten used to the physics engine, it's kind of boring. Maybe if it was like Fallout where limbs and heads would fly off it would be more fun.

Running over peds NEVER gets old in that game. The way they ragdoll on the car is hilarious. I love casually driving down the road then drifting off onto the sidewalk, taking out tons of peds, then casually driving pretending I didn't do it. Hilarious
Also the car physics. Going as fast as possible and crashing into a dozen cars in the city just to see how the car damages is always fun.
Easily spent 200+ hours on vanilla GTA IV. I know I have 150+ on just one file.
