Considering how there's one for faces, I suppose the opposite for heels in in order.
I've always considered the Rock a forerunner in this category. Any other ideas?

Owen Hart. Just because he was so cheesy and funny.

I always loved the Million Dollar Man. He was like a funny, "evil" Bruce Wayne.

Though he could be hypocritical, Bret Hart in 1997 had so many legitimate points in his promos and his points about Austin were pretty on point. Austin was the one who insulted Bret for months on end, cheated in the Royal Rumble, and cost him the WWF championship. The fact that Austin got cheered for all that while he was booed for taking a couple cheap shots at Wrestlemania 13 does seem to be pretty unfair.

I don't think you could say he was all that likeable about it though. He pretty much severed his ties with an entire country over a couple of bad fan reactions.

To be fair he also reunited with his family and showed great appreciation for his home country. It all comes down to a matter of personal preference, I guess. Some would say you can sheer the violent, paranoid, SOB who says he doesn't care about the fans or the vindictive, self righteous whiner who can't handle being booed. [Also, another likable heel? Repo Man. Guy did his job and apparently loved the career he was in. Gotta love it.]

Santino as the Intercontinental Champion. Although he wasn't the typical heel as much as a braggart.

Maybe not most likable, but most sympathetic. Rock during his Nation run.
Let's be honest. The fans booing him because he didn't look like how they envisioned someone should was unfair and "DIE ROCKY DIE!!" was WAY over the top. I don't blame him for telling the fans to go f*** themselves when he joined the Nation of Domination.

Miz. He was pretty much the underdog going against Cena at Wrestlemana, and his promo package made it...kind of hard not to like him.
Also, his "ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG" promos and all didn't feel heelish at all. Oh, also, Ryder. I could never hate the goofball.

Beth. She's easy on the eyes and I agree with her point of view.

- Rock when he joined the Nation
- Bret reuniting his family and criticising the US
- Sid Justice in his feud with Hogan.
- Rick Rude in both his feuds with the Warrior
- Randy Savage in his feud with the Warrior
- Punk when he feuded with Jeff.

Miz. He was pretty much the underdog going against Cena at Wrestlemana, and his promo package made it...kind of hard not to like him. Also, his "ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG" promos and all didn't feel heelish at all. Definitely Miz. It's just hard to boo a guy you find so damn sympathetic; this was the reality show dude who busted his hump to live out a dream, a dream of being slammed every night for considerably less pay than if he got a show on MTV. Much of why I think he'd make a killer babyface. Also, Lita during the peak of her "You Cheated On Matt" heat. I still haven't gotten over her being essentially forced out of wrestling because people couldn't separate Lita the Diva from Amy Dumas the private person, and I'm thinking less and less that Vince opened a can of worms when he turned their private lives into a storyline. Especially when all the facts didn't come out until years after she left and what we thought we knew was burned into the back of our minds; hell, the truth makes her more sympathetic and makes Matt look like a jealous bastard for twisting it the way he did.

Best answer I can think of is RVD during the Invasion. Dude did nothing bad at all, and even the fans cheered for him...but he was still aligned with the heels. Is that cheating?

Dolph Ziggler. All he did was defeat Kofi Kingston like 100 times to retain his IC title last summer, and defend his girlfriend from all sorts of ridicule! That's not a heel!

Especially when all the facts didn't come out until years after she left and what we thought we knew was burned into the back of our minds; hell, the truth makes her more sympathetic and makes Matt look like a jealous bastard for twisting it the way he did. Probably not sympathetic on television because man she played up that heel character PERFECTLY, but anyone who bothered to watch the Byte This! segments was treated to a full on crazy dose of Matt Hardy at his best: ranting, raving, and sounding like an utter nutjob. The worse part is, Amy sounded perfectly reasonable in her explanation and expectations of their relationship. Unfortunately, even fans who listened to the segments at the time were saying Matt was right, she was wrong, he was completely reasonable... It also helps that looking back--Amy did say that Matt was becoming "obsessed with the Internet", confusing his character for real life, isolating her and finally--the crowning gem...that she was the one who broke things off with him, and his response was to run screaming after her car and yell that she was "committing career suicide" and he "would ruin her". No one believed her. Well, now I'm sure more people do...but in any case, I've always loved Amy/Lita and she seems like a genuinely nice person. Hell, even her recent interview commenting on Matt's odd behavior got misconstrued and people were hating on her for calling Matt's behavior immature and bizarre. Sometimes you just can't win.

Personally I've always liked the Miz, I've pointed out several times that it's probably because I'm a douchebag but I'd hang out with him.

Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention--Edge during that whole Matt Hardy/Lita thing. His promo against Matt's was absolute gold and it didn't help that I'd soured on Matt Hardy for what seemed like his endless public whining. His heel promo sounded more like the guy that rescued the girl from her boring, obnoxious whiny boyfriend.
"You wanted to marry her but you were with her for six years and never proposed...strap your seat belt in tight...etc..."
To make matters worse, he seemed to prove himself right by stomping Matt's head in at Summerslam, fulfilling his "you don't measure up to me as a man in anyway" promise. Then at Unforgiven, he did another promo with Lita where he said he would "wipe Matt Hardy out of their lives for good so they could finally be happy together."
I'm not sure how much of that was the writing staff throwing stones at Matt or Adam airing his true feelings about Matt Hardy. He did seem genuinely annoyed and angered that Matt wished him death in a car accident when he called into Byte This! at a point prior to the whole response shoot...so I'm guessing he felt no guilt over burying him the next week.
