Quick question for those who've seen it. Is there an unnecessary emphasis on Mystique simply because she's played by Jennifer Lawrence? I'm familiar with the original DoFP story and I'm aware Mystique led the assassination attempt that ultimately sparked the chain of events. That said, has her relevance been upped to 11 for this movie?

Whether they put extra or unnecessary emphasis on her character is a matter of opinion. Mild spoiler considering you are familiar with the DOFP story.... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}She is positioned as the key character of the 1973 timeline, as if it all rests on what she will do. That doesn't mean she is the character we follow the most in this timeline.

Just saw it and really enjoyed it.
If anybody had fears about Quicksilver, I assure you that you can abandon them. He is very well done.
Also, thank God that the post-credit scene that leaked a few months ago turned out to be false. The real one is considerably better.

Apparently, you see Fassbender Magneto out somewhere in the desert in an RV and all of a sudden, something shoots out of the sky and lands. The thing calls itself Apocalypse and possesses Magneto. That would have been super lame.

WOW. I still have gripes with some of the Singer X-Men stuff, mostly the boring costumes and under-developed supporting roster, but man alive did this thing still deliver as one hell of a movie. It felt like he'd been sitting on this thing since X2 just itching to get it on screen, because the quality was right there with it (and better in some places). Also, {Spoiler}Welcome back, Cyclops! Hopefully you finally get your time in the sun, and with Singer as a huge supporter of James Marsden, we hopefully get just that. My theater erupted into a clap and cheer-fest when Scott showed up, which made me feel really great seeing the audience embrace my favorite X-Man like that.

Thanks for the answers, folks. Now another question. I haven't even seen First Class yet (please put away the stones). Did that one also have a bonus ending? If not, are people saying that Fox jumped on Marvel's bandwagon and is now adding bonus endings a la The Avengers films?

First Class did not have a bonus ending, but The Last Stand, Origins: Wolverine, and The Wolverine had mid-credit or post-credit scenes. Since X-Men used this in X-Men: The Last Stand, it's not like they completely took the idea from Avengers films.

I plan on seeing it again either today or tomorrow.
For anyone who saw it in 3D was it worth it?

I plan on seeing it again either today or tomorrow. For anyone who saw it in 3D was it worth it? I really enjoyed the 3D effect for the opening titles. I think the 3D added to the effect of a scene that showcases Quicksilver. The audiences I saw it with loved that scene and I think the 3D added to it. I think most of the film should look good in 2D, though.

Just got back from watching it (in 3D, but it wasn't really worth it except for a certain scene involving Quicksilver) and thought it was f***ing fantastic. I don't really know where I'd rate it out of all the other films as I'll need to see it a couple more times before I do that. My favourite bit was Quicksilver's great set piece, it was funny and spectacular and I'd like to see more of him in future films. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Loved Kelsey Grammer turning up for two seconds at the end. If there's one thing X Men 3 did right, it was casting him as Beast and it was nice to see a brief callback to that.

Great stuff. Respectful to the source, but different enough to keep you wondering, great blending of casts, great action, awesome Sentinels, fun Quicksilver, great character moments. Thumbs up.

One question I had: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}So this movie essentially links the original trilogy and First Class, my question is, how was Mystique in the original movies if she was kidnapped by Trask's people and was basically medically tortured? I am guessing she escaped, but just couldn't really figure it out. Just not sure how she escaped and ended up back teaming with Magneto when at that point she was already working alone.

We just don't know. We also don't know: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}How Magneto is released from prison or what made Charles stop taking Beast's formula and re-start the school. My thought on the latter was that the events following Trask's murder lead Charles to start the school back up, feeling that he needed to recruit Mutants to his way of thinking.

Different timelines. The things you're speculating on essentially never occurred at all.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}You know who they can also bring back.. Psylocke (she just shows up for one useless scene in X3, as a villain, and is killed). And I nominate Ruth Wilson to play her in any future movie.

Super hyped to see this tomorrow. I'm doing my best to avoid spoilers but have gathered that this basically negates X-Men 3, which is great because f*** X-Men 3.
