These are all of the Four and 3/4 (****3/4) star matches by Dave Meltzer. A lot of these could easily have been rated 5 stars though. So if you could only pick one that should have been 5 stars, which is it?
My vote goes to Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit personally.

All of them as quarter stars are bloody stupid but I went for HBK vs Taker WM25.

Yeah, quarter stars are ridiculous and incredibly petty. It should be either half or whole, that's it.

I'll just try and do a ranking of them, somehow...
1. Bret vs Owen, WM X 2. Triple H vs Stone Cold, No Way Out 2001 3. Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels, Wrestlemania 20 4. Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels, Wrestlemania 21 5. The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels, Wrestlemania 25 6. Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit, Royal Rumble 2003 7. Angle/Benoit vs Edge/Rey Mysterio, No Mercy 2002 8. Taker vs Shawn, Wrestlemania 26 9. Taker vs HHH, Wrestlemania 28 10. HHH/Austin vs Benoit/Jericho, Raw 11. Bret Hart vs British Bulldog, IYH 5 12. Benoit vs Jericho, Rumble 2001 13. TLC II, Wrestlemania 17 14. Shawn Michaels vs Mankind, Mind Games 15. TLC III, Smackdown 16. HBK vs Razor, Summerslam 95 17. HBK vs Jannetty, Raw (no idea why this is ****3/4)

Bret vs Owen from WM X for me.
Never gets old, and this comes from someone who tries watching it once a week!

Triple H / Undertaker, but like I've said before at the point where you're going into quarters of a star I no longer care what you think.

Certainly Bret v Owen. Oh, Benoit's ladder match with Jericho than the Royal Rumble match with Angle. Again, the points systems is incredibly petty.

I dislike I can only pick one. So if I have to pick one its Taker vs Shawn 1. In my opinion Angle vs Shawn is 5 star as well.

4 and 3/4 star ratings are absurd. But Takers matches at WM 25 and 28 should be 5 stars.

These matches got 4 and 3/4 stars but Cena vs. Punk got 5? Wow, just wow.

Definitely HBK vs Taker at WM 25. I have no idea why he didn't give it five stars, and the quarter thing is really bulls***.

Seriously some of those match are way OVERRATED...
HHH vs. HBK vs. Benoit WM XX HBK vs. Undertaker WM 26 Austin vs. HHH NWO 01 Angle vs. Michael WM 21 (This is one of the most ridiculous matches I've ever seen)
All of these matches are a bunch of stuff with no rhyme or reason. Are matches desperately trying to be all time greats instead of just letting it happen.
I would say the best of these are Bret/Owen, Bret/Bulldog, and Shawn/Mankind

I'm not really invested in star ratings, but I can't find any flaws with Austin/HHH's Three Stages of Hell.

I think Austin / Triple H and Angle / Michaels are amazing though, and I'm not even particularly a fan of Angle's work generally.

I find it better to look at it as a ranking out of 20, so for instance the Mankind vs HBK match would almost certainly have lost 1 point for the awful ending. That match should've ended with the pin after the super-super kick.
Doesn't Meltzer also take into account the build up to each match?
Personally I think about 5 or 6 of those should've been classed as 'perfect'.

I'm not really invested in star ratings, but I can't find any flaws with Austin/HHH's Three Stages of Hell. Maybe Triple H winning? I mean after all of that build for a year and a half, the heel won.

Personally, I think that's the real genius of it myself, given it perfectly set up what came afterward of Taker and Austin feuding, Austin doubting himself and needing to align with Vince, and with the hell the two put each other through why they would rather join up than keep working together. The only real problem with it is that the natural payoff of Triple H / Austin for Mania 18 wasn't done.

I say Jericho vs Benoit deserves a 5 star. Its one of the best One on One ladder matches period. With ADR vs Christian a close second. and Y2J vs HBK a Third. One on One Ladder Matches are my favorite. You can get a hybrid of both a technical masterpiece, and a spot fest. Its the ultimate hybrid of the two. And as Jeff Hardy said in the Ladder Match DVD. If you have a ladder match on a card, its an instant upgrade to the entire PPV.
But yeah, quarter stars are bull. Its an instant drop of credibility.
