Considering some of the reactions Punk and/or people who breathe in second-hand Punk onscreen get, I'd lay money on that only making people love her more.

Fire her and see if anyone tries to blow up Titan Tower. This is the only true way to find out.

What a minute...so AJ isn't actually a nerd!? Next you're going to tell me Shawn Michaels isn't a sexy boy, Bret Hart isn't a Hitman, and Undertaker is not dead! Curse you Internetz!!! Swear to God if someone says that Randy Orton isn't a viper, I'm burning this motherf***er to the ground!

It's different groups of guys (and girls) that creep on them. Personally I think AJ has the potential to be bigger than Mickie in terms of creepers obsessing over her. With AJ people are simply attracted to her since she appeals to the lonely neckbeards, she's small, she's cute, she's Asian, and she's the personification of the "idiot nerd girl" meme. Do I think she's a nerd? Perhaps, but nowhere near the level she plays it up. There's a ton of guys on here creeping it up with quot;babes" and divas in the signatures, but it more than likely ends right there. You have to look at the nutty loons that get a tattoo for AJ or phone in a bomb threat to HQ like that Mickie fan did to really gauge it all. I think the Mickie stalkers are a lot more dangerous than the AJ ones, who are mostly harmless dorky guys. Dude, she's Puerto Rican. Not really the point of your post, but where'd you get Asian from? We geeks are a multicultural sort, you know. Alison Haislip, Aisha Tyler; they don't have to be Asian to get the adoration. Hmm...I never knew that. I thought she was Filipina like Big Dave?

She went to NYU, the definition of hip. She's also attractive and sociable. I don't think she's "nerd" the way many people are thinking, but in the hip way it is cool to be a nerd now. Not the kind of kid that got beat up, had their glasses stolen and shoved into lockers in school type of nerd, or hasn't been out of their basement in years, goes without bathing for days and has never been on a date. Even if that was pure, undeniable fact, which it isn't... how on earth is this even an argument, let alone a thing? You can't like geeky things or be considered a nerd without being beaten up? I consider myself a nerd and I headbutted a guy into submission for trying to pick on me (when I was 12 and didn't know any better). This whole 'ooooh she's pandering' thing seems to me like a weird reflexive self-hate thing among some people. My point is that people are reacting to this as if being a "nerd" for a female is some new unique thing, like they think AJ suddenly identifies with how they were bullied in school, had no friends except for their comicbooks and video games etc... She just enjoys things that traditionally were labeled as geeky, but most young women in her age group enjoy now. There's no hate about it. It's just a bit of a dated thing to think of her as a "nerd". She's a geek, as she said in her promo on the other page, which just does not mean the same thing anymore in today's tech savvy society. Plenty of women have those interests, are pretty, go on dates, etc... it does not mean she was a social outcast, as I think some people are jumping to believe. Now, if she comes out with a story about having no friends etc then fine. But the definition of geek has changed over the past 10 years. It doesn't mean the same thing that it did 20 years ago. And to be honest, yea I'm picking on the description/life experience of a stereotypical wrestling fan here. Geek isn't as unusual as it used to be. BTW-- people do realize that the PHILIPPINES is in the Pacific right? It's an east asian island/country? Big Dave and AJ are both Asians.

We already have that with the pandering/not pandering thing represented in the poll. There've been flames about that in threads already. I think what I don't like about it has nothing to do with AJ and more to do with the internet-at-large. AJ wears shirts that say "NERD" or "METAL" and people eat that up, which bugs me since that's the equivalent of Jessica Chobot licking the PSP. But no one forces them to like her so it's not quite so much on her. What I don't like is that there are wrestlers who are actually bigger into things that are traditionally considered "nerdy" and nobody holds them to it. Shad Gaspard is a comics nut who draws and publishes his own work, but you never see anyone show any interest in him for it. Or Shelton Benjamin, who is an avowed gamer who dominated the old game competitions that WWE held for SvR with the wrestlers. But nope, never hear anything about that. Apparently it's only acceptable or interesting if AJ does it. I am not upset about it, but yeah it's true. AJ has been pandering to the IWC since day one and it's worked very well. To think there aren't other wrestlers with "nerdy" interests is ridiculous. This isn't the 70s/80s when alot of wrestlers went into to the business just for the sake of having a job because they didn't make pro sports or retired, these days most of the current performers have been life long fans. So I am betting many of them could relate to us more than we think. Personally, I think AJ is just a ring rat as Booker T said, although it's not because he said it. She likes the business, but got in it to bang wrestlers, what a surprise! She has been doing it since day one. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate her, I actually think she is doing a pretty good job. But she is not an amazing actor or great in the ring, she is just doing well at what they are giving her and for the most part it caters to her strengths. Although I thought the Mickie love was a bit ridiculous, atleast it was organic(the WWE didn't book her for the IWC obsession to happen), and IMO she was more talented. She got harder to pull off angles thrown her way and she did them very well. She was also much better in the ring.

She has been doing it since day one. What on earth... I can't even compute this, its simply a terrible thing to say about a person and one that has nothing to back it up. Yeah she's slept with wrestlers, what a suprise, she works with them and is around them everyday. So, not a suprise that the possibility for romance exists. I do like how a lot of people in this thread are operating under the assumption that they know AJ and her motivations, her passions, the very core of who she is. I don't know AJ so I won't pretend to speak for her or whether she's a 'nerd' or not, but I like her because I think she's a pretty damn good female wrestler at a time where there is a huge lack of talent or personality in the division. Also one last thing. Lets assume, again, that she is pandering to nerds or whatever. What if, you know, thats her character, her persona. Imagine, say, a 'wrestling character', where you take aspects of yourself, and blow them up to make yourself identifiable, to make fans know who you are. Oh dear, reading this, I'm starting to get close to white knighting. I still thing the point stands but still, I'm out, this is only going to end badly.

I find the debates about AJ's 'nerd cred', and now apparently her fans, far more nauseating than a thread talking about her performances. I'm never sure what these meta discussions are meant to accomplish anyway.

if this turns into a 20 page flamefest of white knights VS Roast Beef Brigade, then yes. Until then, it's not quite there. Ohhhhh I miss those days. Someone post a photo of Arby's, then it's ten straight pages of Hatfields and McCoys with things like this sprinkled somewhere in the middle.... "I've eaten at Arby's a few times back when I used to work in NWA. Cornette would go crazy if they forgot his curly fries. One time, he went so berserk, he accidentally sat on his tennis racket sunny side up. He spent one night in an ER while the RN had to remove splinters from his anus walls. He never got those curly fries." I will not allow this to get nosold any further

One time, he went so berserk, he accidentally sat on his tennis racket sunny side up. He spent one night in an ER while the RN had to remove splinters from his anus walls. He never got those curly fries." I remember that. You left out one part of the story. The part where Corny attacked me for saying"who cares? its just fries.".
I mean I understand why he was mad. That was pretty insensitive. I just dont agree with him taking Ronnie Garvin 8 by 10s and jamming them into my urethra while bitching at me that by speaking in front of the fast food workers i'm a"bumblef*** breaking kayfabe and killing the business".
But hey. I've had worse things happen to me. I mean just look at my eye. Though it's kinda my fault. I should of been more careful. I shouldnt of sat down near too cold scorpio. It was an accident waiting to happen.
On topic though. In my expierience, womens wrestling in the internet wrestling circles typically draws males who are obsessive and looking for something to defend. I know that one poster on this forum who is notable for being a fan of a certain female wrestler once posted that he basically started out indifferent to this particular wrestler and just defended her for the sake of fairness. Over time though,he said that he devolped an affection for her as a performer and as a person. It's just in the nature of womens wrestling to attract males who are obsessive. Wrestlings about convincing you that you know someone add that with the way in which womens wrestling is consistantly s*** on and you get the double whammy of a charity case that you feel you know. I think every female wrestler has their stalkers. I think Nicole Bass probably has some. It's just something that happens. With that said,I don't know if i've quite seen the reactions that AJ gets with any other female. It's hard to say whether it's reached mickie james level because she was a much more popular wrestler around here who had years built up in previous companies for people to get invested into before she even came to WWE. People watched her entire career. However in terms of levels of passion that people invest about her. I think it's worse. I've seen people make derogatory comments about Mickie and not get anything for it. I've never seen someone bring up something negative about AJ and it not become a massive thing. I also find it more than anything creepier than Mickie James fandom. It seems as if alot of AJ fans have a lolita fetish. Plus,as f***ed up as the level of fawning over mickie might of been..I didn't see people constantly talk about how Mickie would be at anal. I also dont remember there being quite the talk about Mickie being adorable constantly that AJ produces. I also think that Mickie fans with notable exceptions like the guy who threatened to bomb WWE for firing her seemed more realistic. I mean steveweiser may be a mega fan but he's not nearly as detached as i've seen some AJ fans be. Plus there wasnt just the constant adoration for mickie than aj produces. I was in a chat once where me and a bunch of people watched smackdown and out of all the things on the show the most active conversation was about AJ. They constantly talked about how adorable she was. I don't know if it's Mickie levels just because of the fact that mickie was more popular in general than AJ on the internet but it seems creepier and more passionate. But then again I think AJ is a cynical cash in and a terrible performer so I might be bias.

I don't know, something seems to be missing from AJ's crazy repertoire. Hmmm..... That's definitely the night she won me over.

All I expect out of AJ is decent entertainment from her wrestling character. I don't care either way about her real-life geekiness or supposed lack thereof.

Not really, I don't think the following is that strong, not even Maria levels yet (which was also pretty strong at the height of her ditzy girl popularity). Maybe it's the effect of two other IWC favs who she's been associated with for a while in Daniel Bryan and now CM Punk. Over time maybe, but not yet.

Really? Another "ZOMG! AJ ISN'T A REAL NERD!!!!1111" discussion? These days a "nerd" isn't labeled as a negative thing compared to the 80's. "Nerd" or "geek" is simply used as something to describe people who like video games, Sci-Fi movies and etc. I just find it ridiculous when people think because a woman, especially an attractive one likes these type of things it's instantly pandering. That is a little bit sexist to me. Even if the nerd thing is just a gimmick, who cares? It's like being angry because Cody Rhodes wasn't really a psycho who wore a protective mask.
And has AJ reached Mickie James level of worship? Maybe. Mickie was very popular and had lots of fans. I don't think that is a bad thing... besides that crazy fan who threatened to bomb WWE HQ. And why do I like AJ? She is a diva who I can relate to so much. She has a different look compared to most of the women on the roster, she likes Pokemon, wears Converse (I've always wanted those shoes since I was a kid but they were always too expensive), she's a pretty damn good wrestler (not everybody needs to have the exact same skill as Bret Hart) and her character/mic skills are good too. Plus she's a real wrestling fan. I love reading stories about how she fell in love with the sport. And the video where she met Lita as a teenager is so adorable.

It's close, but not there yet. They certainly have parallels, but all I see is people taking to a female character that got a good amount of development beyond "I'm a good guy so I point at the crowd and smile constantly" or "I'm a bad guy so I permanently have my hands on my hips and sneer at people". Unfortunately that's rare in WWE, but it's why Mickie had such a following, it's why Laycool had so many people behind them (and like these threads have gone, they just devolve into senseless bickering about whether or not being annoying = legit heat), and it's why AJ gets threads like these. Guy wrestlers get lumps of threads too, but since these are girls it's too easy to translate fandom into creepiness. Shocker of the century: the women are attractive, and it's not like guys are going to purposely ignore that.
As far as my opinion goes, I'm definitely entertained by her current on-screen persona and think she's cute, though I do wish they'd have her actually wrestle at some point. Off-screen I could care less about her supposed nerd cred/pandering. If she likes that stuff, good for her, I'm not here to judge or write it off as pandering to get internet-savvy wrestling fans on her side. It's certainly possible that she can like that stuff legitimately and still do normal stuff as well. I love video games and cartoons, and I work as a programmer, but I do go out to bars and parties quite often too, as well as exercise/lift weights regularly. Does that mean I should turn in my nerd card ASAP?
