Maybe so, he just retweeted this comment.
Is it a valid point? I think so, to a degree. Especially for Ryder.

I think it's just the usual case of WWE not knowing how to tone down on something.

I've never seen the problem with the Twitter promotion. Seems like a pretty modern move from a company that is normally accused of not moving with the times. Yes they over do it, but this is WWE if you don't like things being over the top I suggest not watching it.

I see it as Vince gloating about WWE's significant popularity in the midst of the MMA craze, so I'm not that angered by it.
All we get is a pop-up at the bottom of the screen and the occasional mention of it in a promo. When they start devoting entire televised segments to merely talking about awesome Twitter is, then I'll get pissed.

Yeah, I don't really understand the outrage surrounding it. Honestly, WWE's use of social media isn't much different than any other live program's use of it. It certainly isn't just a WWE thing.

The only time it was really bad was Rock and Cena with their twitter promo. Usually it doesn't bother me.

it gets on my nerves when the announcers/commentary guys start talking about twitter instead of the match, but...whatever. I was beyond annoyed last night when Lawler was like "will you be quiet cole! Im tweeting!!" like it sounds like if my grandpa got a twitter.

I don't care if they have their Twitter handles on their nameplates or say "Follow us on Facebook or Twitter." But it gets obnoxious when promos and commentators find a way to shoehorn it in there.
Though at least they're being more informative than shows and commercials that show the little FB or Twitter logo. I don't get the point of that. It's not like my remote control has INTERNET MAGIC and can click on the icon to take me to your page, which you haven't given me the address to.

INTERNET MAGIC is of course what you call it when the Bellas do porn.

WWE has no sense of subtlety and takes everything overboard. It's not that they mention Twitter or have someone's twitter handle in their on-screen graphic.
But shouldn't the announcers be telling me what's happening on the screen?

I still have yet to see what this twitter obsession has done. So they manage to make a few superstars names and random phrases trend. How exactly does that equal more success for the WWE? Are the buyrates of PPVs up because of it? Can we attribute a ratings increase to it? Are the superstars getting more over because their names are trending? The only change I see because of this "Twittermania" is the announcers are now making it sound like being able to trend worldwide is more important than actually winning a match.

Its brand awareness.
And that doesn't mean next weeks RAW gets better ratings. Thats a narrow way to look at 'success'. Its clearly helped a few superstars out. That helps the product.
Its a bit more indirect.

Yes they over do it, but this is WWE if you don't like things being over the top I suggest not watching it. This is a cop-out. Yes, WWE overdoes things, but rarely like this. I like the fact they're embracing Twitter, but constantly putting "trending" and meaningless BS over is beyond annoying at this point. I get what you're saying, but its perfectly logical that people are annoyed when every single segment Twitter/trending is mentioned.

The guy who just won the US title. And I'd argue Punk to. It certainly helped spread talk about his original shoot promo.

If you can't even remember his name, Twitter must not be doing a very good job. But seriously, Zack Ryder's popularity happened from his webshow and associating with Cena. I haven't seen any evidence to show that he became more popular because his name was trending. And yeah CM Punk's work was spread via Twitter, and that's cool. I'm all for trying to enhance storylines via Twitter. I just don't think Michael Cole constantly rambling on about trending is going to help the WWE in any way. It just seems like another swing and a miss with the WWE trying to become mainstream, like the celebrity guest hosts. I'm hoping that they'll realize this and tone it down within the next few months.
