I know he was over, but in the WWE Universe, he wasn't anything. I dig Storm, but let's be real. In the WWE style of pro wrestling, he had no chance. Lance is a world class wrestler, i'm sure he had the 'WWE style' down pretty well When it came to actually wrestling, yeah, but he was completely void of all personality. His personality did shine through his wrestling ability. Unfortunate that his personality was extremely boring. He just never had that electricity that guys need to do anything in the WWE.

Storm knew what you had to have to get over in WWE, he just didn't have it Charisma isn't something you teach, Storm was a bland technical guy, the type you'd buy as a serious threat. But he didn't have the showmanship that WWE main eventers generally have. You'd believe he'd win, but if you wanted the larger-than-life character of a Hogan, a Hart, an Austin, a Rock, etc., you just didn't have it with him. He could do it all in the ring, but outside of it kept him from ever getting more. But he trained Dolph Ziggler, so he obviously knows enough to teach great guys. Ziggler is just a better showman. And he is right, Ryder is a midcard comedy character. But there's nothing wrong with being a midcard comedy guy. A lot of memorable guys made their careers off of it.

Given that Raw doesn't have a midcard, what Lance said is actually an unintended compliment

From his twitter: A fan asks Lance "What do you think of Zack Ryder?" and Lance replies "I don't like the gimmick, to me it's comedy mid-card. I'll care when Zack Ryder becomes as exciting as Randy Orton." twitter.com/#!/Storm_Wrestling/status/143891803194667008 I think we've all missed this rather important point! Apparently, you're only worthy of the great Lance Storm, if you're at Randy Orton's level! ;D

So if Zack Ryder wants to be as exciting as Randy Orton, we'd better get used to this:
"MY NAME...IS ZACK...."
"...RYDER."

He immediately undid his opinion by saying Randy Orton was exciting.

He immediately undid his opinion by saying Randy Orton was exciting. He... didn't? I'm pretty sure that was just added on here, because the tweet posted didn't say that. And he didn't say he hated him, just that he hated the gimmick. It's not nearly as controversial as people are making it out to be.

You know who else had a comedy mid card act? His buddy Chris Jericho. And he never moved up to the main event until he got a new gimmick. He had teases of it, sure, but he went right back to the IC scene anytime those programs were over, until he got serious.

But....would he have gotten that gimmick if he never obtained the level of overness he got from being a goober? Which came first, you know? I highly doubt "Lionheart" Chris Jericho was ever going to main event any WWE shows.

And all he said (when you remove what the OP added) was that he didn't like the gimmick. It speaks nothing about the guy's talent. I also think tacking on something fake onto a real quote, even when done as a joke, is a pretty dick move. I'd have gotten fired for that shit when I was a journalist, if the entire thing was a joke, then it'd be fine. Mixing it up just makes it look like he said something he never did.

Randy Orton is exciting? I don't trust Lance Storm's opinion on anything anymore.
