I think I have several observations and solutions regarding activity in this e-fed.
First, we did not miss a beat the first time we took a week off so I think we should experiment with the idea for at least post-Gookermania and maybe post-Night of the Wrestling Zombies and WrestleCrApocalypse. I'll decide what to do from there.
Second, the key problem seems to be that members are barely participating at all. We must figure out why, and I hope it isn't flakiness and laziness. There seems to be a lull in this fed every late August/September. Things felt like this last year, though I don't recall previous years. It's possible that seven weeks is too many to buildup to a show; even Gookermania. Perhaps scaling back would help next year, which the weeks off help out with.
Third, might my use of member ratings for booking remove creative incentive to plan angles? I think my system is logical from a kayfabe perspective because it reflects weekly trends and gives members a constantly revolving door of opportunity to capitalize on their popularity if they are up to the task. On the other hand, from a shoot perspective, wrestling doesn't tend to get booked that way; the promoters pick who they want to push. That doesn't sound feasible to me.
Fourth, might the promo thread possibly siphon creative energies away from the shows, our bread and butter? Imagine if all of the (kayfabe) arguments and discussions were instead channeled into promos for the shows themselves? Perhaps I can flip that around: what if posting at least once a week in the promo thread provided points for my point system?
Fifth, I think my points system isn't currently incentive enough because no one has "cashed in" yet. I would, as I'm the only person who qualifies for more than a TV Title Shot and I'm approaching World Title week by week, but my character currently has other affairs and baggage than to suddenly jump into the World Title fray. Only a few others (e.g. Aaron Enigma, Jack Cain) qualify for so much as a TV Title shot. If a person wrote a match, commentary for it, and a promo every week, they gain 5 points, which means it takes them 3 weeks for a TV Title shot, 6 for an IF/FA title shot, and 12 weeks for a World title shot.
In conclusion, there may be several things we could change to increase activity here:
a) take a week off after every supercard to recharge creative batteries;
b) give points rewards for posting in the promo thread;
c) abolish the promo thread and have members focus on writing promos for the shows themselves, which already carry an incentive;
d) reconsider my booking methods.
Some or all of those could be solutions. I doubt there's a magic method that will get everyone to participate at once but I think we all agree that e-feds are at their best when everyone participates and puts effort into it.
So let's see some of your thoughts...
