The ending was inevitable. A couple of people (including me) said this was going to happen. And that was way back when it was first posted on a wrestling news website that an EC was going to go down. Still pretty cool though.

Still pretty cool though. I had that idea in the back of my mind after Edge lost by DQ. I'm glad I was right because it was so awesome to see happen live.

You know something.... Us wrestling fans who follow the wrestling industry through the internet usually think that because we read spoilers and find out what's going on behind the scenes means we can predict what's gonna happen. And low and behold, they swerved me in a way I never thought they could. I actually saw the PPV. A friend of mine bought it and invited me to come see the show. I was skeptical of the whole thing. And for about two and a half hours, it was pretty tame. Until the Elimination Chamber. Kurt Angle got eliminated first. What? I'm sure most of us thought that Carlito or Masters would be out first. Then Kane gets eliminated just minutes into entering the match. Surprising to say the least. Then HBK, who has began developing a feud with Vince McMahon, gets eliminated unexpectedly. Surely, I thought it was going down to Cena and HBK. And surely Vince would interfere somehow and cost HBK the match. Why did I think this? Because I thought I knew it all. Well, I was right about Cena retaining by defeating Carlito and Masters. And then they swerved me again. Out comes Edge. Out of nowhere. Unexpectedly. Edge comes to get his shot at the strap. At this point, I'm thinking that the WWE is gonna screw this all up. As Edge spears Cena and covers him, I'm thinking he's gonna beat Cena. 1, 2, NO! Damn! I told my friends that Cena's retaining. I was so sure of it. I thought the WWE was gonna go down the path they've been going down since his title run began in April. Then Edge spears Cena AGAIN! Huh? And the ref counts. 1,2....... ....THREE! And for the third time in less than twenty minutes, the WWE had swerved me on THREE different occasions. And here I thought I was the one who was outsmarting the WWE. Well, much like many of you, we were stunned. Left in disbelief. Without question, I marked out like a little kid again. Makes me miss being a young wrestling fan. And for the record, I'm not a big Edge fan, but it's nice to see the WWE surprise you once in a while. Certainly surprised me. So for the first time in quite a while, let me give much credit and props to the WWE writers for coming up with a well thought out finish with plenty of surprises and twists. For once, they got it right. Terrific work! Now let's see how they follow this up. I will say this. For the first time in quite a long time, I'm actually anticipating watching wrestling tomorrow night. Keep up the good work guys. You fooled me three times in one night. Let's see if you can fool me again.

I must confess that I never believed they'd actually put the belt on Edge. Obviously, I was wrong.
This was actually a bit of a swerve. Not a major one, as it'd been called by several people already, but enough of a one to keep the casual fan intereted. I'm not the biggest Edge fan, but I do have to admit that putting the belt on him is at least a breath of fresh air. Where this goes, no one knows.
Still, I like it. Super Cena needed to go.

Chavo and Gene opened the show for Heat. Some "Shave your goatee" chants for Gene. Huge Eeddie chants and a smattering of "Chavo" chants. He reversed the Coat Hanger into a nice DDT and hit the frog splash for the win. It was a treat to see Big Gene and his backne live.

I wrote this in wwe lj community, and I wanted to put it here too.
Edge. Congradulations. I've defended Cena on the board, but in the movie theatre, when Edge won the title, I, along with everyone else, got up and started cheering and high fiving everyone.
Earlier in 2005 during the Hardy/Edge/Lita thing, I defended Hardy and was pretty pissed at Edge, mostly because Matt got fired over it. But, I still respected Edge's ability to be heel, and to someday be WWE Champion. Hell, I've been saying it since Taboo Tuesday 2004.
I know Edge may not be that popular here, or anywhere else on the net. But you know what? Edge earned his shot. He debuted in the WWE 8 years ago almost. He worked 3 out of the 4 TLC matches. A vicious Triangle Ladder match. A great cage match with Angle. A great ladder match with Eddie. 5 IC Titles, numerous tag team titles. He had a broken neck. He came back and got injured again, then got injured during his run as Mr. Money in the Bank. And through everything, Edge finally did it. In High School, under his name in the yearbook, people said that Edge would become the WWE Champion in the future. And he did it. The man worked the snowy wildlife of Manitoba, driving 10 hours on ice patches to get to the next village to wrestle in front of a couple of hundred people. He got free training after winning a contest. Was trained at the WWE Dojo by Dory Funk Jr. He worked as hard as any man could work, going from the bottom to the top. And whether you love Edge or you hate him. Where you respect him or you don't. You have to admire the path he took.
Edge didn't take the easy way. I'm not saying Cena did. I'm not saying Batista did. But Edge did have it harder. In recent years in the WWE, they've been looking for flash in the pan champions. A guy who can just come in and win the belt. It took Cena and Austin 2 and a half years to win. The Rock 2. The Big Show, less then one. Triple H, 4. But Edge, it took him 8. It was like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. They worked there way to the top. And Edge. Cheers to you. And I don't mean to sound patriotic, but thank you for bringing the belt back to Canada. If we can't get the Stanley Cup or the World Series, we might as well get back the WWE Championship.

Nice post there Lancers.
Didn't see it, forgot the PPV was actually tonight truth be told, so Edge wins and they carry a storyline to fruition in what is probably the best possible scenario they coulda went for with the MITB.. cool. Maybe now some of the Cena hate ( and I was pretty bored with the Grandmaster B of Steel myself in recent weeks, not to the CENAS UXXOORXZ AGGH! RAWRQ levels, but still) so that's cooler. Should be an interesting Raw.
And yeesh Spike you've thrown more locks 'round here than Rick Moranis as the Key Master.. where's Sigourney's Gate Keeper when we need her?
...yup completely dated myself with that refrence, if you're too young to know what the hell that last bit was all about, get off my lawn you kids!

I'm not as big an Edge fan as I was when he was with the Brood and then later in E&C.... I never really got into his singles push.
Until Matt Hardy.
I'm not gonna rehash that, but needless to say I was totally marking out the whole time and loved it.
I feel he has earned his title spot for at least 30 days, but him holding on to the belt won't last. Cena v HHH is gonna happen for the title at WM, so Edge will drop the title shortly, but how he carries that strap will determine if this is a one-time shot or if he'll be a legit main-eventer for another 8 years.

And yes, in fact, the WC board literally exploded several times and just wouldn't let anyone on. We got some error message about too many connections.

What this proves is that you don't need to to back to the well to shock value to gain interest.
Interest is in the last place the WWE forgot to look.... the characters, the stipulations, and seeing a storyline through to the end.

OK, my thoughts on NYR, though admittedly I didn't see the show. The Trips/Show match honestly sounded pretty good, though my one question is, is a sledgehammer shot not HHH's required set up move for the Pedigree? I know the whole Shelton's mama deal is getting heat, but here's my problem with it. The woman playing her, like no one recognizes her? Hell, she had a show she starred in on UPN for like two years for God's sake. And Shelton, one of the best in ring workers in the company now can't wind without mama hitting opponents with a loaded purse? The hell? Did the writers say, "well, Sharmelle is working good on Smack Down, so here's this, plus, it makes the show feel more sitcomish". Damn it, let the man freakin' wrestle, plase? Edge is champ..... Meh. Don't get me wrong, the idea was solid It made sense, it was a bit of a surprise, since most of us I'm sure thought the MITB wouldn't be cashed in until probably Rumble, so nice surprise on their part. Cena's reign was getting old, and I give them credit, they listened and actually (gasp) followed through with an old stipulation. Yeah, I know, I'm as stunned as the rest of you. But ok, youv'e got an injury prone wrestler you put the belt on? OK, so this will last, what, two weeks? My guess, it's Kane all over again, and Edge drops it tommorrow. I know who I'm guessing it will be, since he did "finish" his mini-program with Show, but I could be wrong. The Elimination Chamber did help to give Carlito a bit more character, and he used his finsiher!!! Wow, he used it for , what, the third time? And it put someone away! Go Carlito, go! OK, I"m done being a smartass. Overal, the show did a good job, it seems, of elevating some people. Masters and Carlito feud now, with Masters as a face I'm guessing. Could be interesting, possibly. I don't expect Savage/Steamboat, but it might be fun. Show's destruction of the hammer sounds cool as hell, and even in jobbing, he still was kept looking strong, whcih is needed. Trips is Trips, so he's fine. I think the show can be seen as a pretty good effort. Their attempts at "comedy" still make my brain hurt, but that's fine, I'm becoming immune to it.

I was there live. It was a pretty decent show. Got off to a real bad start though with both Mickie and Helms losing basicaly killing their storylines before they started. Shelton vs Viscera was a waste of time. HHH vs Big Show was alright but kinda of disapointing I expected the cast to be used a weapon more than it was. When the Flair & Edge match started the show me and my friend called the finish right then and there. The match was pretty good. Flair actually got to hit his off the top rope move. The gauntlet match was about as bad as was to be expected. Funniest moment of the show was when Mae and Moolah were struggling to get Victoria's shirt off I looked over to be my friend and said "Your shirts are too tight Billy"
Who would have thought that Carlito and Masters would have carried the elimination chamber match? Carlito got the two biggest pops for moves and along with masters provided the storyline for the match. Maybe not the best chamber match but defientaley the most surprising.
Edge got a huge pop when he came out and quickly won the title. The crowd was really into it. A very split crowd between Cena and anybody else, there were chants for Edge, Masters, Kane, Angle and HBK. Had Carlito been left alone with Cena for more than 5 seconds I'm sure he would have gotten one too.
The crowd post show was nuts. Fans still cheering for Edge and I saw at least 4 little kids on the verge of tears.
Edge now joins, Kurt Angle and Ric Flair as wrestlers to win their first WWE/F title in Albany.

I really don't like Edge, but I think he'll make an interesting champion, more so than Cena. Edge has a long list of possible opponents:
Ric Flair - No way that the Nature Boy lets a loss like that go unavenged. There have been rumors for a long time that he'll get one more short run as champ. Maybe this is it...
HHH - HHH is like the Billy Martin of WWE. He's always a possibility...
Matt Hardy - You knew that this was coming...we will see a Matt/Edge match for the belt at some point, I'm sure. It might be a squash for Edge, but it might be entertaining too. And, yes, I realize that he's on Smackdown right now.
John Cena - I'm sure we'll see the inevitable rematch. I'm guessing that Cena will be out for revenge, but Edge will still find a way to screw him over.
All of the other guys in the Elimination Chamber (Masters, Kane, Carlito, HBK, Angle) - All of them are going to be pissed that Edge took advantage of the situation like he did. I'm thinking that HBK will be the first up, only to get screwed over by McMahon. (If they go that way, they'd better not do it in Canada. Edge is going to be ultra-over in Canada, and the Canadian fans would LOVE to see HBK screwed out of a belt in favor of a Canadian.)
Angle will be an interesting situation. He has history with Edge, and he's also super-over. Judging by his promo, it sounds like he's going to have to do a face turn, because there is literally nothing that will make the fans hate him.

I gotta give Vince for the nice swerve. I totally saw Cena pulling out the Elimination match, and that's what happened, the "oh geez not again" of Cena winning really set up the surprise infusion of Edge well. Also props on following through on the "money in the bank" storyline rather than just letting it fade away.
I hope this is more than a little test reign for Edge and they actually try do something with it. If we still just end up with HHH vs Cena at mania for the title I'll be disappointed.

^I think so, as the crowd was really into him tonight especially when he did that flip over the top rope to HBK, that had me marking out a bit. Looks like a Carlito/Masters feud is brewing.
