I've seen the one where the mom was collecting the plates the movie theatre was giving out during WWII, whichever that one was and it was ok. But I'm not really feeling a direct sequel.

Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss and It Runs in the Family were both based on Jean Shepherd's stories, like A Christmas Story, and they were both really solid, if not excellent. The biggest problem I had with either of those is that the actor who plays the Old Man in IRITF is clearly doing a Darren McGavin impersonation.
A Christmas Story 2, if it's not based on Shepherd's short stories, is guaranteed to be on "top __ worst ___ ever" lists until the end of time.

Jingle All the Way - Liked it. Are We There Yet? - Hated it. Snow Dogs - Meh. The Flintstones - Good. The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas - Bleh. Problem Child 2 - I liked it. Beethoven - Don't remember it, actually. So, hit and miss for me.

I liked the second Flintstones better.
Say what you will, but the cast was more suited to the roles
