Man, reading Sting and Angle makes me think how good it could have been if Kurt started a little earlier and was in WCW.

Actually not surprised that match happened, but am surprised it was given a decent amount of time rather than being a squash.

11/20/1977: Toronto, Ontario - Verne Gagne beat El Santo
At this point:
Verne had been in pro wrestling for over 25 years. El Santo had been a pro for over 40.
Wow.

2 matches I can think of that happened in 1998... The Hardy Boyz vs. The Legion of Doom(well, the crappy version with Droz) www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWAU5j3JiEgand how's this for random? A 20 plus man battle royal with a bunch of lower midcarders such as The Headbangers, Bradshaw, Kae En Tai, Dan Savern, Los Boriquez, Bob Holly, Tiger Ali Singh, The Oddities, Marc Mero, Scott Taylor, Southern Justice, Papi Chulo, Faarooq, The DOA, and...The Rock! With Gorilla Monsoon on commentary - in 1998! www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZxZ7v2ByjAThat battle royal was amusing. I don't even remember Papi Chulo existing.

That battle royal was amusing. I don't even remember Papi Chulo existing.[/quote] I forgot how over the Rock was as a face during that short little run before he turned heel again at the Survivor Series. Also, Papi Chulo had a few different names in the WWF. He started out in a mask using his Lucha name Mr. Aguila. Then he became Papi Chulo. Then he became Essa Rios and was the 1st guy in the WWE that Lita was the valet for. Also, the sad thing about that Macho/HBK match is that was the last appearance Miss Elizabeth ever made in the WWE. She and Randy divorced shortly after that European Tour.

Ahh. I totally didn't recognize him as Essa Rios. But I did recognize one... Too Hot Scott Taylor!

British Bulldog vs. Mongo. I'm more surprised that Davey Boy won with a simple hammerlock hold.

Bret vs. Vince.
I'm also thinking about a bunch of "before they were stars" matches in which a future star was just some Jobber on a show like Sunday Night Heat. Rico vs. Bryan Danielson is one. Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy... they all had matched like this.

Low Ki getting squashed by Essa Rios, and showing more charisma and creative offense than I'd seen in years, made me a fan for life.

Hulk Hogan lost clean at Canadian house shows to Dino Bravo in WWF and Jacques Rougeau in WCW. His loss to Rougeau is really neat. There's some clips online. I've heard different interviews where both have talked about the match, and it's cool to hear that Hogan respects the Rougeau clan's importance and their role in Wrestling history.

I always thought Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Shawn Michaels mini-feud seemed like one of the oddest feuds ever. It seemed out of place at the time. But the feud played out over 2 weeks on Raw, and they're really good matches and part of 2 great classic episodes of RAW. It's also notable that HBK dressed in a really random & weird outfit in their second match. Black beater t shirt, simple black tights, and plain black boots. H vs. Hayabusa (Mr. Gannosuke) with Shawn Michaels special referee (11/23/99) (in which the man we know as Hayabusa wrestles unmasked as H and his long time firend/opponent wrestles as Hayabusa and Shawn Micheals randomly added)
Also David Sammartino vs. Cactus Jack I just saw recently.
